Elnor saw with her own eyes the dozens of bolts falling from the sky, heading straight for her position. She stood frozen, speechless, as time itself seemed to slow around her.
"Oh."
The bandit leader, Zarod, rushed toward her as fast as he could, even though he already knew he would arrive too late.
Yet what he witnessed in that moment was exactly what he had worked so hard for.
Elnor grabbed something from her satchel. A strange-looking whistle, unlike anything ordinary. She brought it to her lips and blew into it, just before the bolts struck.
The shrill sound that burst from it nearly shattered Zarod's eardrums. He instinctively covered his ears. The entire battlefield seemed to freeze under the sheer force of the whistle.
Then, in a single instant, all the nearby Rushers threw themselves in front of Lady Elnor, forming a wall of flesh. Nearly sixty Rushers became human shields.
The fire rained down.
