Raj's expression changed slightly as he looked upward.
A figure wearing a cloak and hat stood high above him on the back of a large bird Pokémon. A scarf covered most of his face, leaving only a pair of cold eyes visible as he stared down at Raj.
Raj's heart sank.
His Pokémon had just finished a fierce battle and had almost no strength left.
But this man clearly intended to kill him.
A strong sense of danger rose in Raj's chest.
This person wore clothing similar to the previous three attackers.
He was clearly from the same group.
So he had been hiding nearby all along, waiting for the right moment.
[Ding. A Pokémon from the Unova region detected 30 meters above.
Mandibuzz.
Dark/Flying-type Pokémon.
Combat Power: 1200.
Known moves: Air Slash, Brave Bird, Dark Pulse, Tailwind, Knock Off, Bone Rush, Peck, Hurricane.]
Another Pokémon not native to Kanto.
Their origins are definitely suspicious.
Raj frowned slightly.
"You brat. You're truly impressive. Among rookie Trainers, your strength is exceptional. You managed to defeat three attackers at once and even used their moment of relaxation to launch a surprise counterattack."
"I haven't seen a Trainer like you in a long time."
"But unfortunately," the man's eyes turned cold, "you won't live past today."
"I won't allow someone like you to survive and interfere with our plans later."
"Mandibuzz, use Hurricane. Throw him into the sky, then finish him with Air Slash."
"I want to watch a proud person like you die in despair."
Mandibuzz screeched loudly.
Its massive wings flapped violently and a powerful storm formed instantly, rushing toward Raj and Haunter.
At that critical moment Raj suddenly stepped forward and stood directly in front of Haunter.
He forced a small smile.
"Haunter. I still remember how mischievous you were when I first met you."
"You only agreed to become my partner because I forced you."
"But I'm truly happy I met you."
"Having all of you beside me is the best thing that has happened since I came to this world."
"I have no regrets."
"You must keep living well."
Raj turned and spread his arms, standing firmly in front of Haunter.
Haunter froze.
At first it had resented Raj for forcing it to become his Pokémon.
But as time passed, it slowly realized Raj cared deeply about his partners.
Raj had done so much to help them grow stronger.
And now he was willing to stand in front of danger for them.
How many Trainers in this world would do that?
Very few.
Haunter tightly held the Poké Balls containing Muk and Beedrill.
It had never hated its own weakness as much as it did now.
Raj looked back once more.
"The situation is urgent. Go. Escape."
At that moment a faint light seemed to surround Raj's body.
Holding back its grief, Haunter moved toward the nearby stream.
Below, Magikarp and Tentacool floated quietly on the water's surface.
Memories suddenly flooded their minds.
They remembered how carefully Raj cared for them.
They remembered how he trained them.
They remembered how he protected them.
They remembered everything.
Their anger erupted.
A powerful cry echoed across the area.
The river water suddenly began to boil.
Two bright white beams of light shot upward into the sky.
Two powerful roars followed.
Their energy shook the surrounding air.
Transparent Light Screens suddenly formed in front of Raj and blocked Mandibuzz's Hurricane completely.
"What is happening?"
The man riding Mandibuzz frowned.
"Is someone protecting him? Impossible. His father is already in that situation. No one should be protecting him."
A violent wind suddenly surged upward from the ground.
Mandibuzz itself swayed slightly in the air.
The man narrowed his eyes.
Two powerful Pokémon now stood behind Raj.
A massive red Gyarados glared fiercely at him.
Standing on its head was Haunter, staring at him with burning hatred.
Beside them floated Tentacruel, radiating powerful pressure.
"Gyarados and Tentacruel?"
"And a red Gyarados?"
"How do you have a mutated Magikarp?"
The man immediately pulled down his scarf and prepared himself seriously.
Even he could not remain calm after seeing a red Gyarados appear.
At the moment Raj faced death, the two Water-type Pokémon he had released earlier had evolved and returned to protect him.
The reason for the man's reaction was obvious.
The legend of the red Gyarados was known everywhere.
