KAIZA'S POV :-
I woke up in the morning with her sleeping beside me.
She looked tired and exhausted these days. At least she had fun with her family.
I didn't realize she was already awake, quietly staring at me.
"Why are you smiling?" she asked.
"Nothing," I replied.
How do I tell her? Just one glance at her is enough to make me smile.
"Don't you want to go to your office?" I asked.
"I'm tired. Can I take a rest?" she asked, her voice soft.
"Of course you can. You must be tired after all that fun."
"Yeah... maybe."
"Rest. Let me make breakfast for you. What do you want to eat?"
"Nothing. I don't have an appetite. I don't want anything... just let me sleep." She pouted, pulling the blanket over herself.
I gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Fine. But not eating properly isn't good for you."
I don't know... it's been like this for the past few days, and it won't help.
"Let's go to the doctor today," I said.
"No. I know you've had a lot of work lately. I can go with Aki. You should go to work, okay?"
This girl.
"But it's just for a day. Let me-"
"So you prefer staying at the office the whole night again?"
I couldn't argue anymore.
I don't want to stay at the office all night, leaving her alone.
"Fine. But I'll talk to Akira first. Then you can go."
"Fine. You're getting late now. Go!" she said, lightly pushing my shoulder.
"But-"
I tried my best to convince her, but she never listens.
---------------------------------------
It's 1 p.m.
She still hasn't called me.
I tried calling her several times, but she wouldn't pick up. When I called Akira... same thing.
"Ask her yourself."
What? Like she'd actually tell me.
[Love Calling...]
Me: What happened? Are you okay? What did the doctor say?
Love: Calm down. Come home early today.
Me: Why? Did something happen? Why won't you tell me?
Love: I told you. Come home first.
Me: But-
Love: Okay? Bye! Love you!
Me: Love you too, but-
She cut the call.
What even happened?
This is making me worry like hell.
She sounded so calm... but she still wouldn't tell me anything.
[Calling... Akira]
Akira: Hello!
Me: Ayy! Stop it, huh? Tell me what happened.
Akira: Haha. Can't you wait?
Me: Wait for what?
Akira: I don't know. I'm busy. Bye!
Me: Wait-
She hung up too.
Understanding women is surely the toughest thing.
They cut the call right on my face, and I can't even compete with them. Best friends for a reason.
I just want to finish all my work as early as possible.
Knock. Knock.
"Come in," I ordered.
The manager walked in, carrying a huge stack of files.
No way.
Not now.
"Sir, you have to review these."
No...
"Yes. Place them on the table. I'll do it," I replied with a bitter smile.
I actually wanted to laugh.
Can I do it tomorrow instead? I muttered to myself.
No, I can't.
Who says being a CEO is easy?
----------------------------------------
A few hours later, I was still sitting in my chair.
One last file.
My wife is more important.
I grabbed my phone and stood up.
"Take the remaining files from my cabin. I'll finish the last one later," I said hurriedly to my manager before walking away.
"O-Okay, sir," I heard him reply.
It's already five.
I don't know if she's okay or not. She sounded fine on the call...
But I can tell something's wrong.
I drove as fast as I could and reached home.
The moment I got to the front door, it opened.
She was standing right in front of me.
"Are you okay? What did the doctor say?" I blurted out, barely giving her a chance to speak.
"Okay, okay. Calm down first," she said with a small laugh.
I couldn't miss the little smile she was trying to hide.
She gently took my hand and led me to the couch.
"Sit."
She handed me a glass of water, waiting until I took a sip.
"What happened?" I asked more calmly this time. "Can you tell me now?"
She didn't answer.
Instead, she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around me.
I froze for a second before hugging her back tightly, one hand instinctively rubbing slow circles on her back.
"Are you okay?" I whispered.
She didn't seem like she was.
She stayed quiet, her grip around me only tightening.
I gently cupped her face, searching her eyes.
"Is there anything you want to share with me?"
She looked at me for a long moment before intertwining her fingers with mine.
"A lot," she finally whispered.
And that's when I knew...
Something was wrong.
I didn't know what she was trying to say.
But I could feel it.
