Chapter 98 - CH.98

After handing the ancient vampire progenitor over to his scientists, Thanos wasted no time and moved on to the third alternate dimension. He advanced methodically, tearing open one hidden world after another, and what he uncovered quickly made it clear that Earth was far more complicated than it had ever appeared on the surface.

Atlantis, hidden beneath crushing ocean depths, revealed a civilization that had thrived in isolation for centuries. Kunlun, tucked away beyond mortal reach, operated as a self-contained world with its own laws and traditions. Even the ancient pyramids concealed gateways to enclosed domains, where entire populations had lived, reproduced, and evolved in secrecy for generations.

Each of these places existed as a closed ecosystem, self-sustaining and disconnected from the outside world. But Thanos's arrival shattered that illusion of permanence. Every hidden dimension he stepped into became a battlefield, and every isolated civilization faced the same inevitable conclusion.

Destruction.

As one alternate dimension after another collapsed under his assault, the hidden layers of Earth were peeled away. The world that emerged grew increasingly chaotic and vibrant, filled with beings that humanity had once dismissed as myth. Mermaids rose from the oceans, cultivators stepped out from their secluded realms, and creatures like werewolves and vampires began to walk openly under the same sky as ordinary humans.

The balance of the world was completely overturned.

But Thanos did not allow that chaos to spiral out of control. With absolute authority, he imposed order. Every creature, regardless of origin, was given a simple choice—submit and become part of the new system, or resist and be erased.

There was no middle ground.

Thirteen days passed in relentless conquest and restructuring. By the time the last alternate dimension fell, there were no more hidden worlds left to uncover. Yet despite dismantling everything concealed within Earth's spatial layers, Thanos still had not found the Reality Stone.

That realization forced him to reconsider his assumptions. If it wasn't hidden in an alternate dimension, then its location had to be far more complex than he initially thought.

He tried to recall fragments from distant memories, vague impressions of stories he had once known. But the details were too faded, too fragmented to be useful. Time had eroded them beyond recovery.

With no other leads, he returned to the main warship.

"Deep Blue, conduct another full scan of Blue Star's spatial fluctuations and alternate dimensional traces," he ordered calmly.

The artificial intelligence responded immediately, its voice steady but carrying a subtle difference that Thanos couldn't quite place. "Master, the warship's current detection capabilities are limited. It would be more efficient to summon Temple II for a comprehensive scan."

Temple II, along with the remaining seven interstellar fortresses, had been stationed beyond the solar system as a defensive measure against the Alliance of Gods. Only a fraction of his fleet had entered Earth's atmosphere.

But something about Deep Blue's response made Thanos pause.

There was a faint shift in tone, something more… human.

More intelligent.

His expression darkened slightly as suspicion surfaced. This was not a trivial change. For an AI to deviate even slightly from its baseline behavior meant that something had influenced it.

Without hesitation, he ordered the system to display all recent operational data.

Streams of information flooded the display as he reviewed the logs in silence. Every action, every calculation, every response was laid out before him. Yet no matter how carefully he examined the data, nothing appeared out of place.

No anomalies.

No foreign code.

No signs of tampering.

Still, the unease lingered.

Could it be his imagination?

No. That was impossible. At his current level, his perception was far beyond ordinary limitations. He did not misread things like this.

Which meant one thing.

The change had happened earlier, and whatever caused it had already erased the evidence.

After another moment of consideration, he dismissed the thought. If there had been hostile interference, it would have revealed itself by now. For the time being, Deep Blue remained under control.

"Summon Temple II," he said finally.

As the order was executed, Thanos shifted his attention elsewhere. Around him, the executives of the Dark Order were already moving with precision, managing countless operations across the planet. Without looking at them, he issued another command.

"Bring her here."

They knew exactly who he meant.

Jean Grey.

The host of the Phoenix Force.

After weeks of recovery, her condition had stabilized, though her power had yet to fully return. The energy he had absorbed from her still left her weakened, unable to resist effectively.

As he waited, the door to the control chamber opened.

Wanda entered first, followed closely by Reed Richards. The moment she saw Thanos, Wanda's serious expression melted into something far more playful. She hurried over and wrapped her arms around his, pressing close with a bright, expectant look.

"Father, I need you to make a decision," she said sweetly.

Reed, standing a short distance away, could only sigh at the scene. "Sir, I also have a proposal."

Thanos raised an eyebrow, glancing between the two. "What is it?"

Wanda spoke first, her tone confident. "That vampire you captured earlier—I think using it for a breeding program is a waste. It would be far more useful in cremation facilities."

She explained her reasoning without hesitation. Traditional cremation methods consumed energy and produced pollution, but vampires offered a far cleaner alternative. If they consumed corpses and were then exposed to sunlight, the bodies would be reduced to ash instantly, leaving no waste behind.

Efficient.

Environmentally sustainable.

Thanos listened, then nodded with satisfaction as he patted her head. "A practical solution. Well thought out."

The idea itself was minor, but the thought process behind it mattered. Wanda was no longer just following orders—she was thinking like a ruler.

Turning his attention to Reed, he asked, "And you?"

Reed adjusted his posture slightly before speaking. "Her idea has merit, but it addresses only the dead. The true potential lies in using vampire biology to benefit the living."

He elaborated further, his voice gaining momentum as he explained. Vampires possessed extraordinary regenerative capabilities. If that property could be harnessed, it might be possible to grow replacement organs for humans, eliminating fatal conditions and extending countless lives.

Wanda's expression immediately shifted, her tone turning sharp. "What's the point of saving everyone? Wouldn't it be better to focus on creating a better environment for those yet to be born?"

Her perspective aligned closely with Thanos's own philosophy. Resources were finite. Extending life indefinitely would only strain the system further.

Reed shook his head. "Newborns will grow old eventually. Are we supposed to abandon them when that happens? And organ failure isn't limited to the elderly. Young people suffer too."

The two continued, neither willing to concede.

Thanos watched the exchange silently for a moment before raising his hand to stop them.

"Then use both approaches," he said calmly. "Clone the vampire. As many as you need."

The argument ended instantly.

Wanda's eyes lit up with excitement, and Reed's expression shifted to one of realization. The solution was obvious once stated.

"Father really is the smartest," Wanda said with a grin.

"You are correct, sir," Reed added.

With their dispute resolved, both of them left the room without delay, eager to begin implementation.

Thanos shook his head slightly, then turned back to Deep Blue. "Display the vampire's current condition."

A three-dimensional projection appeared in the air.

The vampire progenitor was restrained within a reinforced frame, its body held firmly in place. Around it, scientists moved with clinical precision, cutting away samples of flesh and tissue at regular intervals. Each removed section regenerated almost immediately, restoring itself as if nothing had happened.

A thin tube extended from above, feeding directly into its body. Dark, viscous blood flowed steadily through it, replenishing its energy reserves.

The color was off.

Too dark.

Too stagnant.

Thanos studied it for a moment, but nothing conclusive came to mind. The creature itself remained completely still, its expression blank and lifeless, as if it had already accepted its fate.

After a few seconds, he lost interest.

At that moment, members of the Dark Order entered, bringing Jean with them.

Her appearance had returned to normal, but the moment she saw Thanos, fear flooded her eyes. She instinctively stepped back, her body trembling despite her efforts to remain composed.

Thanos smiled faintly.

Then he reached out, grabbed her—

—and the two vanished.

More than a month passed in what felt like the blink of an eye.

When Thanos finally returned from his off-world training, the latest report from Sanctuary II was waiting for him. After extensive scanning and analysis, the fleet had finally located a trace of the Reality Stone.

But it wasn't in another dimension.

It was deep within Earth itself.

At the same time, Temple II had detected something else beneath the planet's surface.

A massive entity.

An embryonic lifeform.

One that matched the signature of a Celestial.
