"What exactly is that thing?"
Tony hovered in the air, his HUD flooded with data as JARVIS completed its scan. The results only made his frown deepen. The creature in front of them wasn't flesh, wasn't metal, and didn't match anything in his database.
"It's composed entirely of energy," Tony said, his voice edged with disbelief. "No organs, no structure… nothing that should make it stable."
He paused for half a second, then added flatly, "This thing shouldn't even exist. It makes zero sense."
"Doesn't matter what it is," Captain Steve cut in, his tone firm and resolute. "We break it, and the problem goes away."
The others didn't argue.
Fear was creeping in, but Steve's words gave them something to hold onto. The fastest way to deal with fear wasn't to run from it—it was to destroy the source.
"The Avengers—move out!"
Steve pulled his shield free and charged forward, leading the team straight toward the Thunder Qilin blocking their path. Numbers didn't matter to them. Whether it was one enemy or an army, the Avengers had always relied on coordinated attacks to overwhelm their target.
What did "fighting fair" even mean?
This was teamwork.
Hawkeye released arrow after arrow, each one striking with precision, while Tony unleashed a barrage of micro-missiles from above. Explosions erupted in rapid succession, fire and smoke engulfing the Qilin's position.
When the smoke cleared, the ground beneath it had been scorched black.
But the Thunder Qilin stood there, completely unchanged.
In fact, it looked stronger.
The lightning around its body intensified, arcs of azure electricity surging through its form as the storm above seemed to feed it more power. The darker the clouds grew, the brighter the creature shone.
Steve's shield flew in next.
It struck the Qilin directly.
For a split second, it looked like a clean hit—then it felt like hitting water.
The impact didn't land.
Instead, a wave-like force rippled outward, and Steve was pushed back several steps by the recoil, his boots scraping hard against the ground.
"Physical attacks don't work," Natasha said immediately, stepping aside with her dagger still in hand. Her expression was calm, but her eyes were sharp. "It's not even reacting to them."
Tony hovered above, brow furrowed.
This was new.
Every enemy they'd faced before had limits, weaknesses, something they could exploit. This thing didn't follow any of those rules. It didn't bleed. It didn't break. It didn't even behave like something that should exist.
For the first time, they were stuck.
Not just struggling—completely out of options.
Behind them, Peter stared in stunned silence.
He had been ready to fight again, ready to throw himself back into the chaos, but what he saw froze him in place. The Avengers had charged in with full force, only to be thrown back like they were nothing.
From overwhelming confidence to complete collapse.
It had all happened in seconds.
"…What the hell…"
He rubbed his face, trying to make sense of what he was seeing. Then the situation escalated even further.
The Thunder Qilin began to glow.
Lightning surged down from the sky in massive streams, converging onto its body like rivers feeding into an ocean. Its form became more solid, more vivid, every strand of its mane flickering as if caught in a constant storm.
Then it moved.
The Qilin let out a thunderous roar and charged straight at Captain Steve.
"Smack."
Steve braced himself, crouching low behind his shield as it absorbed the incoming impact. But it wasn't enough. The lightning surged through the shield, spreading across his arms like burning veins.
His skin turned black instantly.
His vision went white.
And then he collapsed.
"Captain!!"
Hawkeye shouted, instinctively stepping forward, but Natasha grabbed him and yanked him back.
"Don't!" she snapped. "You'll get yourself killed!"
Human flesh couldn't withstand that kind of lightning.
Steve's body hit the ground, convulsing uncontrollably. Even unconscious, his muscles spasmed violently, his limbs jerking in unnatural directions. The sight was disturbing—almost grotesque.
Tony reacted immediately.
From his position in the air, he should have had the advantage. Mobility, distance, control—everything was on his side.
Then lightning struck.
A single bolt came crashing down from the clouds and hit his armor directly.
"Warning—energy overload," JARVIS reported instantly.
"Yeah, I can see that!" Tony snapped.
Without hesitation, he raised his hand and fired.
"Boom!!!"
The energy blast slammed into a nearby house, collapsing half of it in an instant. Debris scattered everywhere, dust rising into the air as another structure was reduced to rubble.
The destructive power was immense.
On par with the spider demon's earlier rampage.
But now it came from a hero.
"Did you get that?" April asked quickly, her voice low but intense as she turned to her partner.
"Got it," Fern replied, barely able to contain his excitement. "I even got a shot of Captain Steve twitching on the ground!"
His hands shook slightly as he held the camera, adrenaline surging through him.
He was completely hooked.
Just minutes ago, he had hesitated to even come here. Now, he felt like slapping himself for doubting it. This was everything he could have asked for—raw, explosive, undeniable footage.
This was how careers were made.
If these clips got out, showing heroes losing control, destroying property, and getting humiliated…
It would shake everything.
Promotions. Raises. Recognition.
The future was right in front of him.
And it looked incredible.
Fern grinned, almost hoping for more chaos, more damage, more moments to capture.
Because the more the heroes fell, the better the story became.
——
Thunder roared across the sky like a god announcing its presence.
The storm didn't stay contained to Hell's Kitchen. Even on the far side of Manhattan, people looked up and saw the unnatural clouds gathering, lightning tearing through the sky in patterns that felt almost alive.
It drew attention.
Deep beneath the city, in the maze of sewers, movement stirred.
Master Splinter emerged first, cloaked in a dark robe that concealed most of his form. Only his eyes were visible, sharp and focused as he stared toward the distant storm.
One by one, his students followed.
Leonardo climbed up next, then the others—each wearing their signature masks, each armed and ready. They moved with quiet discipline, their bodies tense with anticipation.
"Move out," Splinter said, his voice calm but firm.
He lifted his staff, pointing it toward the storm, then brought it down with force.
"For the ninja way."
They didn't hesitate.
Their figures blurred as they ran across the city, moving so fast that to ordinary people, they were nothing more than fleeting shadows. By the time anyone thought to look closer, they were already gone.
"Man, New York is insane!" Michelangelo shouted, unable to contain himself as he sprinted ahead like a runaway train.
A sharp tap from Splinter's staff hit him squarely, but it barely slowed him down.
Donatello adjusted the device in his hands, eyes glowing with curiosity. "According to my readings, whatever's causing this energy spike is right ahead. This is… incredible."
Raphael said nothing.
He just kept moving, his expression tense.
He wasn't excited.
He was uneasy.
Something about this felt wrong.
——
High above the city, at the top of a skyscraper overlooking everything, two figures appeared.
Liam stood calmly at the edge, his gaze fixed on the battlefield below. Beside him, the symbiote had already changed again.
It was larger now.
Much larger.
What had once resembled a sleek assassin had transformed into something bulkier, heavier, more brutal. Its blades were no longer thin and precise—they had become massive cleavers, built for tearing through anything in its path.
"Sir," the creature said in a small, almost childish voice, "what do you need me to do?"
Liam didn't even look at it.
He casually pointed toward a nearby storefront.
"Go grab me a milk tea," he said. "And some fries. I'm watching a show."
"…Huh?"
The symbiote froze.
For a moment, it didn't even know how to respond.
Then, slowly, it nodded.
"Truly… worthy of you, sir."
