The second the killer's body hit the ground, right after Kyle slashed his throat with his claws in the blink of an eye. Kyle's head snapped toward me immediately.
I barely had enough time to register the movement before he was already crossing the courtyard, rushing toward me.
One second he was standing several feet away from me.
The next he was right in front of me.
"Kyl—"
I didn't even get the chance to finish saying his name.
His hands were already on me.
One hand immediately cupped the side of my face gently, while the other settled against my jaw. His eyes moved over my features quickly, almost frantically, like he was making sure I was actually standing there. Then his attention immediately dropped to my throat.
And stayed there.
