I looked up at him.
His eyes were right there, close enough that I didn't need to focus to see them properly. Ryland was still holding me against him, one hand firm on my arm, the other steady enough to keep me in place without forcing anything more than that. His grip wasn't shaking. Neither was mine, not even though I probably should've stepped back by now.
I expected myself to.
I didn't.
That was the strange part.
I should've pushed him away immediately. Said something. Created distance. Done literally anything that made sense after everything that had happened between us.
But I didn't move.
I just stood there.
Still pressed against him.
Still looking at him.
And I couldn't figure out why my body wasn't reacting the way my mind told it to.
My breath came out a little slower than it should have.
We were too close.
