Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Audrey's Praise

When Raphael first transmigrated, he was somewhat disoriented. That was due to the fact that his pre-transmigration memories and the knowledge he gained afterward were disjointed.

For example, within the conceptual framework of the knowledge he gained, it seemed there was a level beyond 'True God', but he couldn't recall the specifics.

In his daily life, he also noticed some intriguing details... For instance, Emperor Roselle's diary entries were written in simplified Chinese, and many famous quotes left by this former ruler of the Intis Republic had a distinctly Eastern flair.

This led Raphael to strongly suspect whether this world might have multiple transmigrators. He even wondered if this was some kind of survival game, and those transmigrators were players who had entered it.

But regardless of whether it was a game or not, Raphael quickly adjusted his mindset, deciding that he should advance his Sequence as soon as possible.

As a minor gang leader, he frequently interacted with the lower classes of society and understood how weak and miserable ordinary people were in this world.

He could always find the time to look for other transmigrators after advancing to Sequence 6 or even Sequence 5...

At this moment, on Townshend Street, Raphael, who was preparing to kidnap Audrey Hall appeared perfectly calm on the surface, but inwardly he felt somewhat lost.

He didn't know which Mid-Sequence Beyonder he had offended with his actions, nor did he understand the purpose behind the other party's earlier conversation with him.

But soon, a voice within his mind criticized him: "You seem to be hesitant and indecisive... Are you even a qualified lunatic?"

Raphael lightly slapped his thigh, riling himself up, "Right, I'm a Lunatic. Why the hell am I over-thinking this? Just do it!"

With his spirit lifted, he smiled slightly at the air and asked, "Miss Susie, is that you?"

A cold female voice replied beside him, "Yes."

Raphael continued, "What would you like for dinner?"

After a few seconds, Susie asked with evident confusion, "Why ask that?"

"It just occurred to me that I should be preparing dinner around this time." As he said this, Raphael smacked his lips, as if imagining some delicious food.

Susie paused noticeably before thinking to herself: 'Is this a normal line of thought? I've encountered Lunatics before, but never one this... mad.'

At that moment, Miss Hall's carriage arrived right in front of them. Raphael whistled softly, sending a signal to his subordinate, Carter.

Then, he naturally jumped down from the driver's seat and walked toward a nearby alley, as if looking for a place to relieve a pressing bladder.

Just as he crossed past his target's carriage, he subtly tossed out a green charm and uttered an incantation in Ancient Hermes: "Desire!"

This was a charm he acquired at a Beyonder gathering. It can cause humans or animals to lose their rationality, immediately inducing an extremely strong appetite.

As the charm exploded, invisible ripples spread through the area. The carriage horses immediately neighed and ran towards a large tree nearby; the sudden feeling of extreme hunger causing them to want to eat the leaves on the tree.

The coachman also felt an urgent urge to go over and gnaw on the tree bark.

With agile movements, Raphael pulled open the door of the swiftly moving carriage. Inside, he saw Miss Audrey's personal maid, Annie, who had already rummaged through the carriage's storage compartment, frantically devouring the snacks kept there.

The beautiful Miss Hall, however, seemed completely unaffected.

This noble lady possessed a face that could be described as perfect and flawless, with gem-like eyes and golden hair. Her youthful, innocent temperament had not yet fully faded, while the charm of a mature woman was already beginning to show.

Raphael, who had observed her from a distance many times, couldn't help but be momentarily stunned once more.

He then noticed that Miss Hall remained unaffected by the charm's effect, which was quite unusual. Furthermore, he detected no trace of panic from her at all.

Audrey, on the other hand, had decided to let Raphael kidnap her to see what his true purpose was, and whom he served. Otherwise, given the vast difference in their social statuses, Audrey would never have the opportunity to observe Raphael personally.

After all, this was a task Mr. Fool regarded as important. The thought of entrusting the investigation entirely to others made her somewhat uneasy.

As for the consequences of her own kidnapping, Audrey wasn't concerned. She believed her father would be able to handle the situation.

At this moment, Audrey subtly used Hypnosis on Raphael, causing him to overlook the fact that she was not panicked and remained unaffected by the charm...

For Raphael, there was no time to dwell on such details now. He revealed a somewhat maniacal smile, he spoke, "Miss Hall, how about we embark on a little spontaneous journey?"

Without waiting for a response, he 'reached out' and 'grasped' her arm.

In fact, Audrey willingly followed Raphael and jumped into his carriage.

But under her Hypnosis once more, Raphael felt as if he had yanked her from her seat, then hoisted this noble lady over his shoulder within the spacious noble carriage, and, seizing the moment, leaped into the carriage he had prepared.

Once the two of them were inside the carriage, Raphael immediately shut the door and gave another whistle.

Carter, who had already taken his seat on the driver's bench, flicked the reins: "Giddy up!"

The two horses snorted, raised their hooves, and began moving forward.

A few pedestrians on the road noticed something amiss with the two carriages, but none dared to get involved...

...

Seated opposite his 'victim', Raphael muttered under his breath: "Mm... It seems noble ladies have some special qualities, such as not making any unnecessary struggle in a situation like this. If it were any young lady from an ordinary family, I might have had to use the coarse cloth I prepared in advance to gag them. Also, I probably would have had to constantly warn them that screaming their lungs out was useless since no one would come to their rescue."

Audrey's beautiful face showed no particular expression, appearing very calm as she addressed her captor, "I'm curious... are you unaware of the existence of official Beyonders? How long do you think you evade them?"

"Ah, another special quality of a noble lady," Raphael muttered with a smile, "Seemingly knowledgeable about matters related to the Beyonder world."

He paused for a moment before answering, "Well... how should I put it? I possess an extremely potent Anti-Divination ability. Ordinary official Beyonders simply cannot find me."

'Anti-Divination?' Audrey furrowed her delicate brows, 'Isn't that an ability typically possessed at Sequence 7 Werewolf?'

She said, "Official Beyonders possess many Sealed Artifacts with miraculous abilities as well. Are you truly so confident they cannot find you?"

"Not entirely," Raphael grinned, "I've given my driver a large sum of money to settle his family, and I've brought all my cash with me. So, at the first sign of trouble, I'll flee immediately. Of course, if the official Beyonders dispatch a Demigod from the start, I'm dead for sure. If it really comes to that, I'll have to burn through all my rationality and use your life as leverage to find a chance to escape, though the likelihood is slim."

Audrey laughed and described him in a most unladylike manner, "You're truly a Lunatic!"

Raphael gave a slight, gentlemanly bow, "Thank you for your praise."

Audrey was taken aback: 'Did my words contain any element of praise?'

...

{T/N: From the LOTM wiki, I discovered that because of the Sequence 9 'Prisoner's' Bound ability, which is strengthened at Sequence 8, 'Lunatics' are Bound and restrained in both body and Soul, which makes it difficult to obtain useful information on them by just relying on Spirit Channeling and Divination... Question is; is that the ability Raphael is referring to? Or is it something else?

Anti-Divination: This is an ability acquired at Sequence 7 'Werewolf' of the 'Chained' Pathway. Regardless of whether or not the Beyonder possessing this ability has transformed, any Divination or spiritual means can only reveal a figure covered in black hair, making it impossible to see their true appearance.
