Chapter 10 - -First round

There were thousands of participants in the horizon and probably many more as the arena seemed to be as large as a city. All the enchained people were seperated by glass walls and in front of them was a sort of parkour race that looked individual and hard. The ground was full of traps screaming: if you fall you're dead. All of the participants were probably all the people with equal stats in the world. Behind each of them were some sort of royal guards checking their every move.

A men in a throne got up and started shouting and laughing.

"Welcome saviours of our kingdom. Saviours because you will save us from our boredom…Release the hunting dogs!"

The guard behind David moved and cut his shackles. Then the guard walked back for a while before he opened a door about 50 meters behind David where there was an older men about 40 that looked way stronger than David. His shackles were still on and they were connected to a sort of metal ball. He wanted to kill the boy in front of him for sure.

David was sure of it. He lifted his metal ball up and started running at him. David's reflexes made him run in the opposite direction. He had to run on a long but skinny wooden plank. He couldn't stop looking behind him every 5 seconds. The sound of people getting crushed was all David could hear. This was a race against time. After he finished moving throught the plank, He had to jump onto platforms. After he did the first two easy jumps, the man finished the plank.

David stopped looking back and started concentrating. He finished the jumping section easily and started a section full of tree trunks and axes moving left and right. This was all about timing. He took time waiting to catch the good timing. The man was one jump away from catching up. He started moving. Dodging the tree trunks and the big axe.

He looked back for a second and the axe grazed his right cheek as if it waited for a distraction to pounce on David. He regained his cool and passed it. The axe would've cut his head in half if he had turned a second later. The third one looked way faster. It was turning so fast that I it looked like a full circle of axes. It was like a chainsaw that was waiting for David to pass.

The hunter was getting closer. He passed each tree trunk by crushing them with his metal ball. He blocked the axes with it. The ball got close to being cut in half. He was close to liberty and David was right in front of him. he felt his life flash before his eyes. Maybe it was a deserving death for an attempted murderer.

Truth was, David tried to kill my younger sister after he learned that she would be chosen instead of him. He made a whole plan using a hitman, but that same hitman reported him to his father and got him banished from his family instead of going to jail. Apparently, the hitman felt that he would be payed more if he reported the attempt instead of accepting it. He was right.

The whole thing was blown up in the media and no job would that would accept a young child would hire me. To eat everyday I had to sell everything I owned when I was rich. I went to Groveland for a new start, but who would hire a 12 year old kid. I was close to death and I fainted from time to time. Until a man saved me and took care of me for years. My life was the fruit of my errors.

Back to the present:

The man rushed at David with killing intent. He didn't need the ball to kill him and simply chose to let it go and try to catch him with a tackle. David was using all of his strength to fight back. Luckily, the steel ball limited the hunter's speed and some of his strength. He let go of his hold and threw a jab. David got hit by it and landed on the ground barely conscious. The hunter turned around and took his metal ball. David was going to die a horrible death and he knew it.

The hunting dog rushed at David with the ball holding it with two hands at full speed ready to crush his head.

"Dumbass.", David said.

-"Huh?", he replied keeping his same speed.

David pulled out my kitchen knife from his pocket in a flash and placed the 4 inch blade deep in the man's stomach. His two arms were occupied by the ball, he was doomed. He flinched backwards and fell on his back. Blood flowed from the wound and his mouth. It was David or him and it ended up being him.

David ended up using the ball and the body of the man to block the third axe. He was in a pretty bad state. This was probably the closest he had been to death and most importantly he killed someone. He looked at the kitchen knife tainted with blood and threw it on the sand right next to him.

David was bathed in the man's blood because of how he blocked the third axe. He felt horrible. He did the job that he wanted to leave to the hitman. David walked and thought about everything since the start of his life. The end could have been today. He passed a sort of finish line and ended in front of the man on the throne.

He started clapping,

"Great job young man! That was one of the best ceremony I ever witnessed. The door is that way to leave and.. "

David cut him off and asked him if he was the only one alive.

"Yes.", he replied.

-"How many were we ?", he said with a furious look.

"Probably a million maybe a bit less.", he said.

The boy was shocked. If Jim would've tried my theory he would have died.

David tried arguing about their actions,

"Stop ruining my mood young man get out!"

David just noticed the fact that the guards around the "king" were seconds away from killing him. "He saved me in a way.", he thought. I walked to the exit and just before going through the door named exit I turned around and said,

"You are monsters."

-"I don't have a choice son. I can only watch, so it had to atleast be fun. "

"What do you mean?"

- "Get him out!"

A guard knocked me unconscious with the hold of his sword and threw me through the door.
