Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: A New Arrival

The first day of school after the holidays felt busier than usual. Students chatted excitedly, comparing their summer adventures and swapping stories about hidden trails, secret gardens, and playful games. Yumi walked into the classroom, her arms full of books, feeling the familiar flutter of anticipation.

As she placed her bag on her desk, the door opened, and all chatter seemed to quiet for a moment. A tall figure stepped in—a new transfer student. His hair caught the light, and his eyes scanned the room with calm confidence. Then, almost as if drawn magnetically, his gaze landed on Yumi.

Yumi froze, confusion flickering across her face. His eyes—warm, curious, and slightly amused—seemed to study her, and a soft, charming smile curved his lips.

"Uh… hello," he said smoothly, his voice carrying just enough charm to make the room turn toward him. "I'm Dani, the new student. I hope we get along."

Yumi blinked, unsure how to respond. Her lips parted, and she gave a hesitant, almost bewildered look.

Pherrie, who had been sitting beside her, immediately stiffened. His eyes narrowed slightly, and a protective tension seemed to radiate off him. He subtly moved closer to Yumi, brushing his hand against hers, not holding it—just enough to make his presence clear.

Dani's eyes lingered on Yumi again, and his soft smile seemed effortless, almost teasing, as if he already knew how to make her notice him.

Pherrie's smirk returned, sharp and possessive. "So… you're new here," he said, voice low but playful, and his arm brushed lightly against Yumi's. "Well, Princess, looks like someone's interested in meeting you."

Yumi felt her cheeks warm as she tried to adjust her books, glancing between the two boys. Dani's smile was charming, confident, and flirty, and yet Pherrie's presence was solid, teasing, and protective.

Throughout the class, Dani tried to find moments to approach Yumi, leaning just a little closer when talking to her or offering subtle compliments. But Pherrie was always a step ahead, leaning in with teasing comments, joking, and keeping his protective hand close to brush against hers when Dani tried to linger too long.

By lunch, it was clear to everyone: Dani was handsome, charming, and flirty, but Pherrie was undeniably protective and persistent. He whispered jokes in Yumi's ear, stole glances and smiles, and subtly blocked Dani whenever he tried to make a move.

Yumi sat quietly, caught between the gentle charm of Dani and the teasing, protective warmth of Pherrie. Her heart fluttered—not with anything too intense, just with the excitement of having her friends around, the teasing closeness she had grown to adore, and the subtle thrill of a new presence in her life.

Pherrie leaned closer, murmuring softly, "Don't worry, Princess. No one's taking my place. Not him, not anyone."

Yumi blinked, cheeks heating at the soft, protective words. Dani's eyes flicked toward her again, and his soft smile lingered—but Pherrie's teasing smirk and protective presence made it clear: he wasn't giving anyone a chance.

The new school year had just begun, and Yumi realized that it was going to be filled with laughter, teasing, and the safe, playful closeness she shared with Pherrie—along with the challenge of a new, charming classmate who had already taken an interest in her.
