Chapter 3 - Marshland Troublemakers

The duo trudged slowly and carefully through the murky Marshlands, swatting bugs as they pester them nonstop. Vannes, continuously watching their surroundings, made sure his son had been in front of him in case anything were to happen he could see him. The Marshalands were known to house a variety of monsters, from the bugs the size of a man's head, to wyverns tha lurk in the dark remaining unseen to its very prey.

"We can't stay in these Marshlands too long Leon. Even the water here is poisonous to drink." Vannes trudged behind his son, looking around periodically to make sure they weren't being followed. He kept having a creepy feeling they were being watched. Ahead of the sat an open wheat field that laid deep in a canyon. Fog sitting over it as they slowly made their way out of the thick muddy sludge. Vannes glanced back once more as a precaution, only catching a glimpse of a red blur. "Leon… Get ready to run…"

Leon looks back toward his his father as a pack of red raptor looking creatures emerge from a cave. The leader had been twice the size bearing a blade like Violet crest atop its head.

The Iodrome and its pack of Ioprey were lanky raptor like creatures known for their poisonous spit. Vannes knew this, grabbed his coat and tightened it as well as his satchels strap. He looked at them again as their began sniffing the muddy ground. He could see their yellow eyes widden as the smell of prey caught their scent. The leader looks straight at him and began to call its pack to attention.

Without heartbeat, Leon began sprinting through the tall wheat fields, followed by his father. The sounds of the high pitched callers echoed through the canyon. From their sounds, the Iodrome and its pack seemed to grow closer. Vannes glanced back as they sprint through the field, the red scales of the Ioprey shone bright through the field. He reached over and grabs the Leon's shoulder, pulling him over to a large boulder. He held his son close for a moment as the pack ran past the two. The sound of the predators searching through the fields surrounding them as they waited. The pack finally grew close enough their blade like heads could almost be seen until a sudden fog began to disperse throughout the wheat field canyon. A roar echoed throughout causing the pack to drop and look around. The roar sounded like a mix of a kind of frog and some ungodly monster. The fog grew thicker and thicker to the point Vannes couldn't see the wheat in front of himself nor the boulder they had hidden behind.

Leon looked up at his father and began to ask a question, however his father stopped him just in time to hear an Iodprey yelp in pain and cry out as it sounded like it were being carried away. The thick fog was clear to Vannes what caused the panic. The beast within is known as a Chameleos, an Elder Dragon classified wyvern. This was one whom had been rare to see due to its ability to camouflage itself with its fog. Vannes decided to take the opportunity and to escape before its attention is on them. He gets up quietly and gives Leon a silent look, holding his finger to his lips and begins to quietly lead the way through the fog. It only took two steps for the boulder to disappear from his view.

The fog slowly began to shift to a deep purple behind them as they walk. The Violet Elder Dragon had been spewing poison everywhere, killing the pack of Ioprey and the Iodrome slowly but one by one.

What felt like hours of walking through thick fog had only been an hour when they finally reached their next destination. Once they stepped past the canyon, the two were greeted by a massive wall and gate. In front of the gate stood two wyvernian guards standing 3 meters tall, their ears the length of a full grown man's hand in comparison to a normal man's ears. Both guards wore round hats as well a white cloth top with short pants revealing their hoof like legs and feet. Thery're an ancient race whom shared the same land as well.

Leon looks up at the two tall guards. "Woah.." one of the guards smirked and waved to him while the other walked over to Vannes.

"May I ask why you have come to Dundorma?" The guard stood in front of the two.

Vannes looked up at the guard as he pulled the letter from The Tower out. The emblem of the Tower Masters stamped on the open side. "We are currently on our way to meet the Tower Masters so I may continue ye my research and project."

The guard examines it for any imperfections. "Very well young humans. You may enter Dundorma. The nearest inn will be to your left in the Town Center." He stand back up and walks over to his position leaving the gate open to walk through.

"Before we head in, I must let you know we almost encountered a Chameleos in the canyon on our way in." Vannes looked up at the two guards, seeing them looking over at eachother.

"Thank you for the warning. We shall send a squad out to subdue it." He nods his head to Vannes.

Vannes and Leon head into Dundorma, a city that has been lively for so long. Traders and smithies constantly in motion with many interesting resources. "Let's go get some food, Leon. I'm sure your as hungry as I am, right?"

Leon perks up to the thought of food. "I'm starving. All that running got me hungry."

Vannes smiled and lead him to the inn hoping they had good food.
