Chapter 14 - Entering the Moonwater Realm

The World Gate awakened like a sleeping god.

Silver-red chains wrapped around the massive obsidian frame began unlocking one by one, each release echoing through the Sovereign Archive like thunder beneath the earth.

The air changed.

It grew heavier.

Older.

As if the world itself had remembered something it had tried to forget.

I stood before the gate with Professor Mehra's journal tucked safely inside my coat.

The final words he left behind still burnt in my mind.

Trust the Moon Sovereign.

Simple words.

But from him, they meant everything.

Beside me, Lian Xueyi raised one hand toward the gate.

Her silver-white hair moved gently in the rising energy currents, and the crimson flames at her fingertips burnt with quiet authority.

Behind us stood Captain Suyin and the remaining Flame Knights, watching in silence.

No one spoke.

This was not merely travel.

This was history reopening.

Lian's voice broke the silence.

"The Moonwater Realm lies beyond the second sovereign path."

Her eyes remained fixed on the gate.

"It is colder than this world. Slower. More deceptive."

That sounded comforting.

"Unlike the Crimson Realm, where betrayal burns openly, the Moonwater Realm hides it beneath still water."

I frowned.

"So instead of enemies trying to stab me immediately…"

She glanced at me.

"They will smile first."

Worse.

Definitely worse.

The final chain unlocked.

The centre of the gate ignited.

Silver light flooded the hollow core where the key fragment should have been, but instead of closing, the light responded to the Phoenix Mark beneath my shirt.

Heat surged through my chest.

ARINA's voice echoed.

"Phoenix Resonance accepted."

A blue panel unfolded.

World Gate Access Granted Destination: Moonwater Realm Traveller: Ishaan Witness Authority: Lian Xueyi Gate Stability: Temporary — 1 Passage

One passage.

No easy retreat.

Perfect.

Lian stepped closer.

"This gate can send you there, but I cannot remain."

I looked at her.

"What?"

Her expression remained calm.

"The Crimson Realm still needs its sovereign. My duty is here."

Of course.

I should have expected that.

Still, something about hearing it felt heavier than it should have.

She noticed.

The faintest amusement touched her lips.

"You survived one goddess. Surely you can survive another."

"I was hoping for less fire this time."

"That is unlikely."

Fair.

She reached into the sleeve of her robe and pulled out a small crimson crystal.

It was smooth, warm, and shaped like a lotus petal.

She placed it in my hand.

"A Sovereign Flame Sigil."

I stared at it.

"If your life reaches the edge of death, break it."

I looked up.

"And then?"

Her crimson eyes held mine.

"Then I come."

Simple.

Absolute.

Dangerously reassuring.

The system panel blinked.

Special Item Received: Crimson Sovereign Sigil Rank: Rare Effect: Emergency Summon — Lian Xueyi Uses: 1

That was… absurdly useful.

And strangely personal.

I closed my fingers around it carefully.

"Thank you."

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then Captain Suyin coughed politely from behind us.

Right.

Audience.

Lian stepped back, restoring the distance between sovereign and traveller.

Good.

Because another second of that silence might have become dangerous.

She turned toward the gate.

"The Moon Sovereign is named Yue Xiang."

The silver light reflected in her eyes.

"She and I were once allies."

Her voice lowered.

"If she has fallen… then something far worse than sect betrayal is happening."

I thought of Ashborn.

Of the Obsidian Covenant.

The way he looked at the Phoenix Mark was as if it were an old enemy.

This wasn't random.

The goddesses were being targeted.

Systematically.

I stepped closer to the gate.

The silver light pulled at me like gravity.

One more question remained.

I turned back.

"Lian."

She looked at me.

"If I find my master before I finish these missions…"

I hesitated.

"What if he tells me to stop?"

The chamber grew quiet again.

Her answer came without hesitation.

"Then ask yourself one thing."

She stepped forward once.

"Would he be saying it to protect you…"

A pause.

"…or because he believes you are capable of more?"

That sounded exactly like something Professor Mehra would say.

I smiled despite myself.

Dangerous woman.

She inclined her head slightly.

"Go, Ishaan."

The gate flared.

ARINA's voice rang like a final command.

"Transfer beginning"

The world dissolved.

Silver light swallowed everything.

For one breathless second, I felt nothing.

No heat.

No cold.

No gravity.

Only motion.

Then—

water.

I crashed knee-deep into freezing water so cold it stole the air from my lungs.

I stumbled forward, coughing hard, as moonlight reflected across endless silver waves.

I looked up.

And forgot how to breathe.

The sky above the Moonwater Realm was unlike anything I had ever seen.

Three moons hung overhead.

One full and white.

One blue and fractured.

One crimson and half-hidden behind silver clouds.

The entire world shimmered beneath their light.

I stood in the middle of a vast, shallow lake stretching towards floating stone islands and distant palace ruins suspended above the water like forgotten dreams.

No desert.

No flames.

Only silence.

Beautiful.

And wrong.

Very wrong.

ARINA's panel appeared.

World Arrival Confirmed Realm: Moonwater Realm World Stability: 41% Primary Sovereign: Yue Xiang Current Status: Missing Threat Level: Extreme.

Missing.

Of course she was.

Because apparently, my life only moved in one direction.

Complicated.

I took a slow breath.

Cold air filled my lungs.

Then I noticed it.

Footprints.

Fresh.

Leading across the silver water toward the ruins ahead.

Not one set.

Several.

And among them—

blood.

Dark red against moonlit silver.

I crouched and touched it.

Still warm.

Recent.

Very recent.

A voice drifted across the water.

Soft.

Female.

And carrying enough killing intent to freeze the lake.

"If you touch that blood again…"

I slowly stood.

"…I will cut off your hand."

I turned.

And standing atop the silver water beneath three moons—

It was the most beautiful threat I had ever seen.

Long black hair.

Pale skin touched by moonlight.

Blue-silver robes moving like flowing water.

And eyes cold enough to drown kingdoms.

She held a crescent blade at her side.

Pointed directly at me.

ARINA's voice echoed.

"Target identified."

Name: Yue Xiang Title: Moon Sovereign Favorability: -50. Mental State: Hostile / Suspicious / Wounded

Wonderful.

Even worse than Lian.

I exhaled slowly.

New world.

New goddess.

Same disaster.

"Hi," I said carefully.

Her blade rose.

I corrected myself.

"…this is going badly already."
