Chapter 103 - Chapter Ninety-Seven: Eight Seconds to Steal a Destiny

The moment JP confirmed the portal target, the game stopped feeling like a match.

It felt like a robbery.

On the minimap, Bad Dragons gathered mid again, five heroes grouped with the confidence of people who believed the ending belonged to them. The creep wave rolled like a tide at their feet. Invoker stood behind the front line like a conductor, patient, calculating, ready to press the first key that would collapse Wings Gaming's last breath of high ground.

Anti-Mage paced in front, blinking forward and back, teasing the ramp. He was not just farming now. He was performing.

Lion hovered near the back, waiting for the moment Sven stepped too far out, waiting to turn one button into a corpse. His presence was a threat with a face.

Inside the booth, Wings Gaming did not blink.

XH's Sven glowed with borrowed wealth, three Divine Rapiers stacked like three promises that could not be taken back. His damage numbers were ridiculous. His survivability was not.

That was the point.

Andrew's voice was quiet, almost gentle. "If you die, the item drops."

XH nodded once, eyes locked on the map. "I know."

JP swallowed. "If they pick it up, it's over."

TZ rolled his shoulders, Enigma's icon hovering near the center of the screen. "Then we don't let them touch him."

NS's Naga Siren shifted in the base, illusions sent out like nervous scouts.

HS, pale but steady now, whispered, "We only need seconds."

JP's Pit Lord stood ready, portal circle faint and waiting, like a door that would open into either legend or humiliation.

Outside the booth, the crowd had sensed something wrong.

Not wrong as in unfair. Wrong as in dangerous.

People leaned forward. Phones rose. Breath held.

Mr. Kim's voice came through the speakers, lower than before. "They have done it. Three Divine Rapiers. This is an all in strategy. This is not a comeback. This is a knife."

The Headmaster's mic clicked on.

His tone was amused, but not relaxed. "Or a desperate fantasy."

Mr. Kim replied immediately, sharp. "Desperation is when you do nothing. This is action."

The Headmaster scoffed softly. "Action does not mean intelligence."

Mr. Kim's voice hardened. "We will see."

In the stands, June stood without realizing it.

Her fingers were clasped so tightly the knuckles had gone white.

Kitty's eyes did not leave the screen.

Behind them, Thoon laughed loudly, like she was trying to cover uncertainty with sound.

"He's glowing like a circus," Thoon said. "He'll drop those toys in one second."

HTN smirked. "Anti-Mage is going to erase him. Sven cannot even touch him."

SRM tilted her head toward Kitty. "Are you still confident?"

Kitty's voice was calm. "I don't need confidence. I need time."

SRM laughed. "Time is literally what they don't have."

June didn't turn around, but her voice cut back anyway. "Then stop talking and watch."

SRM's smile tightened. "Oh, I'm watching."

Inside the booth, Andrew's cursor circled the bottom lane.

The portal destination shimmered behind the enemy's tier three tower area, right where a creep wave would arrive if timed right.

JP spoke quietly. "I can open the door."

TZ answered, "I can freeze the room."

NS added, "I can put them to sleep."

Puck's player shifted position, ready to coil.

XH's voice was steady now. "Then do it."

Wings Gaming stopped playing defense.

They started playing theft.

The portal circle appeared.

A low, ominous sound effect triggered as Pit Lord began channeling Dark Rift, the screen tinting slightly, the sense of space bending.

The crowd gasped.

Someone shouted, "They're leaving!"

Bad Dragons did not react at first.

Because their eyes were on the ramp. Their minds were on the high ground. Their pride was on the finish line they were about to cross.

Invoker stepped forward.

Anti-Mage blinked onto the edge of the ramp.

Lion raised his hand, ready to stun.

The push began.

Then TZ blinked.

Enigma appeared at the edge of the fight and dropped his ultimate.

Black Hole.

Four heroes pulled into a screaming vortex.

The arena exploded into sound.

Mr. Kim almost yelled into the mic. "Four man Black Hole!"

The Headmaster snapped, "They expected that."

Mr. Kim shot back, "Then why are they inside it."

Bad Dragons struggled.

Invoker was trapped.

Lion was trapped.

Two supports were trapped.

Anti-Mage was almost trapped, clipped at the edge, pulled in just enough to waste a blink.

TZ's body shook with the channel. Every fraction of a second mattered. If he got stunned, they were dead.

June screamed without meaning to. "Hold it!"

Kitty's hands were pressed together now too, though she would never call it prayer. It was something rawer than prayer. It was need.

In the stands, Thoon's laughter died.

HTN's smirk thinned.

SRM whispered, almost annoyed, "That's… actually good."

Kitty didn't look at her. "I know."

As Black Hole ended, NS followed.

Song of the Siren.

The battlefield fell asleep.

Bad Dragons' push froze mid-step. Their spells stopped mid-thought. The screen became eerie, beautiful, terrifying.

Eight seconds.

Stolen.

Borrowed.

Wings Gaming did not use that time to fight.

They used it to leave.

JP's portal completed.

Sven vanished.

JP vanished.

They reappeared at the enemy bottom lane, right near the tier three tower, right as the creep wave arrived like fate had been scheduled.

The crowd screamed again, louder.

"Rat Dota!"

"They're doing rat!"

"Stop them!"

In the stands, Thoon erupted, furious now. "They're running! That's cheating!"

June turned sharply. "That's strategy."

HTN snapped, "It's pathetic."

Kitty's eyes glittered. "It's survival."

SRM laughed, but it sounded panicked. "Anti-Mage will kill him."

June's voice was trembling, but sharp. "If he can get there."

Bad Dragons woke from sleep.

For a moment, their screens looked confused.

Then their comms likely exploded.

Invoker pinged bottom.

Anti-Mage turned.

Lion hesitated.

Only Lion stayed back.

Because someone had to.

One defender.

One problem.

Lion stood at the base like a final lock on a door.

He was perfect for it. High damage. Instant stun. Finger of Death. Just enough to kill Sven if Sven got greedy.

Inside the booth, XH's breath became audible.

JP's Pit Lord stood slightly in front of Sven.

"Tower first," JP said.

XH's Sven lifted his sword.

One swing.

The tier three tower's health chunked down like it had been made of paper.

The crowd went insane.

"Win! Win! Win!"

The chant began before the win existed, like they were trying to summon it.

Back at Wings Gaming's base, TZ was already dead.

He had given his Black Hole. He had given his body. Bad Dragons punished him instantly after waking.

Puck's player threw Dream Coil at the choke point to stall the chase.

Naga's illusions cluttered the lane.

HS sacrificed himself in the mid fight to buy another second.

It was brutal.

It was deliberate.

It was love disguised as teamwork.

Mr. Kim's voice went hushed. "They are throwing themselves away to buy time."

The Headmaster's voice came through, quiet now. "Or to avoid responsibility."

Mr. Kim replied, cold. "No. This is responsibility."

Anti-Mage blinked down the map, furious, arriving late because of the chain of control.

Eight seconds mattered.

Eight seconds were everything.

But now he was coming.

Lion lifted his hand.

The stun flew.

It landed.

Sven's movement stopped.

Lion's ultimate charged.

June's scream ripped out again. "No!"

Kitty's breath caught, eyes wide.

Thoon leaned forward in sudden excitement. "Drop it. Drop it. Drop it."

HTN whispered, "He's dead."

SRM's grin returned. "Divines drop. That's game."

Lion released Finger of Death.

A bolt of damage erupted toward Sven like a verdict.

JP moved.

Pit Lord stepped directly into the line of destruction.

He body blocked it.

The spell hit him instead.

JP's health vanished.

He died instantly.

But Sven lived.

For one heartbeat, the arena stopped breathing.

XH blinked.

He used the movement not to run, but to close the distance.

One swing.

Lion fell.

The defender was gone.

The throne was exposed.

Behind Sven, Anti-Mage finally arrived, blinking in, furious, mana burning.

But he was late.

He was too late.

Sven hit the barracks once, not even caring.

Then turned straight to the ancient.

The throne.

Every hit was a heartbeat.

The crowd's chant became primal.

"WIN! WIN! WIN!"

June was crying openly now, not hiding it.

Kitty's tears finally broke too, silent and sudden.

She did not wipe them.

She didn't want to miss a second.

Thoon stood frozen, lips parted, unable to speak.

HTN's face tightened, anger mixing with disbelief.

SRM's smile collapsed.

"Impossible," SRM whispered.

Kitty finally turned her head slightly, just enough. "Not impossible."

June's voice shook. "It's him."

Sven's sword rose again.

The ancient's health dropped to a sliver.

Anti-Mage swung.

Sven's health dipped dangerously.

One more hit could kill him.

One stun. One crit. One mistake.

The Divine Rapiers glowed like cursed halos.

Mr. Kim's voice cracked. "If he dies now, it drops. It's over."

The Headmaster muttered into the mic, barely audible. "Finish it."

XH's finger pressed the final command.

Sven swung.

The throne shattered.

The screen erupted in light.

The arena exploded.

People screamed until their voices broke.

Some cried.

Some fell into their seats like their bodies had been holding tension for too long.

June's knees nearly buckled.

Kitty grabbed her instinctively, both of them shaking, laughing and crying at the same time.

The chant turned into a roar that swallowed the building whole.

"WIN! WIN! WIN!"

Inside the booth, XH didn't move at first.

He stared at the victory screen.

Then he exhaled.

It sounded like a release of a lifetime.

He whispered, so quietly no mic could catch it.

"Alive."

And somewhere in the crowd, hidden in the back, June's mother watched without expression.

Her eyes narrowed at the booth.

At the girls.

At the way the entire campus had just chosen a hero.

Then she turned away, disappearing into the noise, leaving behind only the feeling that this win had made enemies, not peace.

Because Wings Gaming had not just won a match.

They had humiliated a dragon in front of the whole world.

And dragons did not forget.
