Chapter 37 - Chapter 35 the drive

The mansion didn't quiet down.

It never did.

But this time—

the chaos wasn't loud.

It was controlled.

Like something waiting.

Outside, the sky had already begun to darken, the last traces of evening fading into a deep blue. The driveway lights turned on one by one, casting long reflections over polished metal.

Cars stood lined up.

Not randomly.

Not casually.

But like they belonged there.

Like they were part of something bigger.

Jay stepped out last.

Not because she was late.

But because she chose to.

Her heels touched the ground softly, but every step echoed in the silence.

Wine-red.

Sharp.

Unforgettable.

Her mask still rested in her hand.

Not worn.

Not yet.

Sebastian was already there, leaning against his car, watching her approach.

A slow smirk spread across his face.

"Took your time."

Jay didn't look at him immediately.

She walked past him first.

Then stopped.

Then turned slightly.

"I don't rush for things that wait."

Sebastian let out a quiet laugh.

"Confident."

"Accurate."

Around them—

engines hadn't started yet.

But people were ready.

Aurora leaned against her car, arms folded, watching everything unfold with a small, knowing smile.

Chloe adjusted her gloves, checking her reflection in the window of her car.

Percy stood beside his car, staring at it like it was a piece of art.

Leo remained calm, one hand resting casually on the roof of his car, eyes observant as always.

And the Justice Veil--

together.

Silent.

Watching.

Sebastian straightened, pushing himself off the car.

"It's a two and a half hour drive," he said,

glancing toward the road ahead.

A pause.

"Boring."

Jay finally looked at him.

And smiled.

Not wide.

Not playful.

Sharp.

"Oh?" she tilted her head slightly. "Then don't make it boring."

Sebastian's smirk deepened.

"I was hoping you'd say something like that."

A beat passed.

Then—

Jay spun her keys once around her finger and walked toward her car.

"Let's race."

Silence.

Then—

almost instantly—

reactions.

"NO." Leo's voice came first.

"Absolutely not," Adam added calmly.

"That sounds illegal," Sarah said.

"That sounds FUN," Percy interrupted.

Aurora let out a small laugh under her breath.

"Finally."

Chloe shook her head, but she was smiling.

"This is a bad idea."

"No," Percy corrected, "this is a GREAT idea."

Sebastian opened his car door slowly, eyes still on Jay.

"First one there?" he asked.

Jay slid into her seat.

"Try to keep up."

Engines started.

One.

Then another.

Then all of them.

The sound filled the air instantly.

Deep.

Powerful.

Not chaotic.

Not messy.

Just… alive.

Music blasted from Aurora's car first.

Loud.

Sharp.

The kind that matched her mood perfectly.

Chloe followed.

Then Percy.

Each car—

its own world.

Its own rhythm.

But all connected.

Jay's hands rested on the steering wheel.

Calm.music playing in the background .

🎵🎵

Heart beats fast, colors and promises.

How to be brave? How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?

But watching you stand alone.

All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling, don't be afraid

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

🎵🎵

Jay Jay closed her eyes feeling the song , but as she closed her eyes she saw keifer , the day when she entered section E, the Christmas party, every moment, every

"I love you Jay till scientists find the end of the universe "💖 A single tear escaped her eyes.

But then she opened her eyes .and the music resumed .

🎵🎵

Time stands still, beauty in all she is

I will be brave, I will not let anything take away

What's standing in front of me

Every breath, every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling, don't be afraid

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along, I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

One step closer

One step closer

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling, don't be afraid

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along, I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

🎵🎵

The music got over, another song started playing this time her favourite, the one Keifer sang for her .

Ikaw ang miss universe ng buhay ko .

But this time she didn't listen it .

She focused on driving .

Steady.

Her expression—

unchanged.

Then—

the gates opened.

And everything shifted.

She moved first.

Of course she did.

No countdown.

No signal.

She just drove.

Sebastian followed immediately.

Then Aurora.

Then Chloe.

Then Percy.

Then Leo.

Then the Range Rover.

The road stretched ahead.

Wide.

Open.

Perfect.

At first—

they stayed controlled.

Aligned.

Close.

Then—

the speed increased.

Not reckless.

Not out of control.

But fast.

Very fast.

Jay didn't look back.

Didn't need to.

She could feel them.

Right behind her.

Sebastian pulled closer.

Side by side for a moment.

He glanced at her.

She didn't look at him.

Aurora accelerated, closing the gap.

Her smirk visible even through the reflection of her window.

"Oh, we're doing this properly."

Chloe stayed smooth.

Effortless.

Keeping pace without forcing it.

Percy—

was laughing.

Actually laughing.

But his hands were steady.

His movements sharp.

Focused.

"Best. Decision. Ever."

Leo stayed controlled.

But he wasn't falling behind.

Not even slightly.

Inside the Range Rover—

Mia leaned forward slightly.

"This feels like a bad idea."

Noah grinned.

"Which is exactly why it's a good one."

Adam didn't say anything.

But his eyes—

were watching everything.

The road curved.

Sharp.

Jay turned first.

Clean.

Precise.

Perfect.

Sebastian followed.

Then Aurora.

Then Chloe.

Then Percy.

Then Leo.

Then the Range Rover.

No hesitation.

No mistakes.

Music.

Engines.

Wind.

Everything blended together.

Aurora laughed softly.

"This is insane."

Jay's lips curved slightly.

Just slightly.

Sebastian noticed.

Of course he did.

"Enjoying this?" he muttered.

She didn't respond.

Because she didn't need to.

The speed increased again.

Not spoken.

Not agreed.

But understood.

Everyone pushed a little more.

Aurora matched it.

Chloe matched it.

Percy matched it.

Even Leo.

No one wanted to fall behind.

But no one wanted to break control either.

That was the difference.

This wasn't reckless.

This was skill.

Jay adjusted her grip slightly.

Her eyes sharp.

Focused.

Unmoving.

She wasn't trying to win.

She just wasn't losing.

Sebastian moved closer again.

Almost parallel.

For a second—

it felt like a race.

Then—

Jay accelerated.

Smooth.

Effortless.

Decisive.

She pulled ahead.

Sebastian let out a breath.

Then smiled.

"Of course."

Aurora pushed forward—

but didn't overtake.

Not yet.

Chloe stayed just behind.

Watching.

Percy shook his head, still smiling.

"This is unreal."

The city lights began to appear.

Faint.

Then brighter.

The venue.

No one slowed down immediately.

They held it.

That speed.

That energy.

That moment.

Then—

one by one—

they eased off.

Not abruptly.

Not dramatically.

Just enough.

Control returned.

But the feeling didn't disappear.

Jay reached first.

Her car slowed smoothly.

Then stopped.

Perfectly aligned at the entrance.

Engine off.

Silence.

But only for a second.

Because the others arrived.

One by one.

Aurora stepped out first among them.

A smirk still on her face.

"That was insane."

Chloe followed.

Adjusting her dress.

"Worth it."

Percy stepped out—

fixing his jacket.

Still smiling.

"Best entrance ever."

Sebastian stepped out last.

Looking at Jay.

Shaking his head slightly.

"You're impossible."

Jay stepped out.

Calm.

Untouched.

Like nothing happened.

She adjusted her mask slowly.

Her gaze moving toward the grand doors ahead.

Then—

she spoke.

Quiet.

Certain.

"Told you."

Sebastian huffed a quiet laugh.

"You didn't even try."

Jay looked at him—

just for a second.

"I don't need to."

And with that—

she walked forward.
