Chapter 8 - The House of Forgotten Shadows

Chapter 8: The House of Forgotten Shadows 🏛️🌌🖌️

The roar of the motorcycle engine faded into the quiet hum of the night as they wound deeper into the foggy, pine-covered mountains. The sprawling, neon-lit skyline of Seoul was long gone, replaced by ancient stone paths and dense, towering timber.

1. The Ancestral Haven 🏯🌫️

They pulled up to a massive, traditional Korean hanok hidden deep within a secluded valley. Unlike the modern, cold mansion in the city, this place felt ancient—surrounded by heavy barrier seals woven into the wooden gates to mask their presence.

Si Jun: (Dismounting, his face pale as he winced from his shoulder wound) "We are safe here... for now. Gu Hai's trackers can't penetrate the barrier without burning through their own power."

Song Wen slid off the bike, his body still trembling from the fading heat cycle. The air here was crisp, smelling of old cedar, incense, and wet autumn leaves. But as he stepped through the heavy wooden gates, an eerie feeling of familiarity washed over him. He had never been to these mountains, yet his feet knew exactly where the stone path led.

2. The Unveiling of the Past 🖼️🕯️

Si Jun led him into the central hall. Lanterns flickered to life automatically along the walls, casting warm, dancing shadows across polished hardwood floors.

At the far end of the hall hung a series of long silk scrolls. Song Wen's breath hitched as he walked up to them.

The first scroll showed a young scholar in traditional robes, holding a folding fan.

The second showed a man in vintage 1920s attire, standing by a rain-slicked pier.

The third showed a young man in modern dress, smiling under a canopy of cherry blossoms.

Every single portrait bore Song Wen's face.

Song Wen: (His voice barely a whisper, his hand lingering inches from the silk) "It's really me. It isn't just a resemblance... it's my soul."

3. The Price of the Bond 🩸⛓️

Si Jun stepped up behind him, the heavy scent of 'Rain and Forest' wrapping around Song Wen like a protective cloak, though it was now weakened by his injury.

Si Jun: "In every lifetime, your soul manifests as a pure-spectrum Omega—a rarity that Alphas would tear the world apart to possess. Gu Hai wants your power to solidify his control over the city's Alpha council. Five hundred years ago, I swore an oath to protect you, no matter how many times I had to watch you leave."

Song Wen turned around, looking at the dried blood on Si Jun's collar and the deep exhaustion etched into his features. The anger and suspicion that had consumed him in the mansion began to melt away, replaced by an aching sorrow.

Song Wen: "And what about you, Si Jun? What do you gain from keeping me safe if I just forget you every time?"

Si Jun: (Looking down, his voice low and laced with pain) "I get to keep you alive. That is enough for me."

4. A Brewing Storm 🚨🌑

Before Song Wen could speak, a sharp, metallic ring echoed through the quiet courtyard outside. The paper screen doors rattled, and the faint, glowing runes on the wooden barrier began to flicker and turn a sinister shade of deep red.

A cold voice rang out through the valley, amplified by raw Alpha command energy.

Gu Hai (From outside): "Did you really think a few ancient seals would keep me out, Si Jun? Give him to me, or I'll burn this mountain to the ground with both of you inside!"

Song Wen looked at Si Jun, whose eyes flashed with a dangerous, silver wolf-light. Song Wen reached out and grabbed Si Jun's hand, his grip firm and unyielding.

Song Wen: "We aren't running anymore."
