Chapter 46 - Chapter 45 : Jiang Nannan's

Su Wen glanced at him.

"Dean Yan, you didn't sell me out, did you?"

"Of course not!"

Yan Shaozhe replied righteously.

Su Wen stared at him calmly.

"Cough...Xiao Wen, this really isn't my fault! The Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Clan offered too much! And Elder Mu knew about it as well....he approved it personally!"

Seeing he could no longer hide it, Yan Shaozhe came clean, conveniently dragging Mu En into it too.

He was genuinely afraid Su Wen would become displeased and switch to the Soul Tool Department.

That would truly be losing the watermelon to pick up a sesame seed.

"The Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Clan?"

Su Wen suddenly understood.

So the current clan master wasn't an ordinary figure either....placing such a heavy bet took real nerve.

"Xiao Wen, I—" Yan Shaozhe tried to explain further.

Su Wen cut him off.

"This started back in the Extreme North, didn't it?"

"Not that early," Yan Shaozhe shook his head.

"About two months ago, he learned you'd be heading to the Star Dou Forest for your third soul ring.

He gave the Martial Soul Department twenty million gold soul coins, hoping to arrange a 'chance encounter' to deepen your bond."

"…How much?!"

Su Wen was stunned.

"Cough...twenty million," Yan Shaozhe repeated.

"Then it's fine," Su Wen replied flatly.

He retracted his earlier judgment.

This wasn't just boldness.....this was the mindset of a true hegemon.

My dear future father-in-law.

"Split it with me later," Su Wen added suddenly.

"Done!" Yan Shaozhe nodded without hesitation.

"By the way," Su Wen hesitated briefly, "Dean Yan, do you know an outer court student named Jiang Nannan?"

"Jiang Nannan? Of course I know her," Yan Shaozhe nodded.

"There aren't many commoner students in the outer court to begin with, and she's quite talented.

I've also heard she's exceptionally beautiful.....there are enough boys chasing her to line up from the east gate of Shrek City to the west.

Even Xu Sanshi, one of the most talented outer court students, has completely thrown away his family's dignity chasing after her."

There was a trace of disdain in Yan Shaozhe's tone.

Which made sense.

This man had once been a legendary heartbreaker himself.....flowers everywhere, but never touched.

"I heard Jiang Nannan's family is poor?" Su Wen probed.

"That her mother is gravely ill, on the brink of death?"

"There's such a thing?" Yan Shaozhe froze.

"..."

Su Wen fell silent.

That confirmed it.

For such a valuable student—especially a commoner with clean background.....there was no way Shrek Academy would remain indifferent if they knew.

Such an opportunity to win loyalty was something Yan Shaozhe would never ignore.

So there was only one possibility.

Either Jiang Nannan's pride stopped her from seeking help, or she didn't realize her talent was valuable enough for Shrek to invest in.

Or perhaps she did mention it, but her teacher didn't take it seriously and failed to report it upward.....leading her to believe the academy was unwilling to help.

And so, she resigned herself to sacrificing herself to save her mother.

Now that Su Wen knew...

A faint smile curved his lips.

There was no way he'd allow the Xuanming Sect to succeed again.

A Shrek Academy student should never be cornered like that.

Jiang Nannan's mother suffered from a heart condition.

The original text only mentioned local clinics couldn't cure it....but whether it was truly incurable… that might have been decided by the Xuanming Sect.

The Black Tortoise Divine Pill likely wasn't the only solution.

And even if Su Wen couldn't manage it himself...

He could always invite Elder Zhuang.

A level ninety-five Super Douluo, one of the top three healing-type powerhouses on the continent...was he really incapable of curing a simple heart condition?

Su Wen smiled.

I do enjoy doing good deeds.

Elsewhere.

The Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Clan's group headed north, passing through the Star Dou Forest toward the Xuanming Sect in the Heavenly Soul Empire.

Negotiating business was real—but meeting Su Wen had been the true objective.

The business was merely convenient.

Seeing Ning Tian glance back repeatedly, Wu Feng clenched her teeth.

Sorry, Young Mistress. For your own good, I have no choice…

She quietly approached Elder Zhu and whispered a few words into his ear.

Just as Wu Feng was feeling smug, Elder Zhu looked at her strangely.

"You're just a dowry maid. Why are you meddling so much?"

The air went dead silent.

Wu Feng's mouth fell open as she pointed at herself.

"Me… a dowry maid?!"

Isn't that right?" Elder Zhu smiled gently.

"When the young mistress marries out, won't you be going along with her?"

Wu Feng: "..."

She deflated instantly like a punctured balloon, tears welling in her eyes as she stumbled away.

Not only was the young mistress being married off—she was being thrown in as well?!

"Waaah—"

When she reached Ning Tian, Wu Feng finally lost control and burst into loud sobs, throwing herself into her arms.

"What happened?" Ning Tian asked, completely flustered.

"Elder Zhu said… he's going to include me as a dowry for Su Wen…"

Wu Feng sobbed uncontrollably, her face streaked with tears.

"Do you hate him?" Ning Tian coughed lightly.

"Well… not really," Wu Feng hesitated.
