The moment she walked in, Grace Winslow saw Florence Sherman and the man beside her.
She said hello, went over to sit down, and sized up the man sitting next to Florence.
He was certainly handsome, with a very youthful look about him. He seemed to be only about eighteen or nineteen.
When he saw Grace, he grew a little awkward, his face flushing red as he lowered his head, not daring to meet her gaze.
Grace smiled and asked Florence, "Aren't you a lucky one, Florence. Where'd you meet him?"
"Where else? Near your shop. He's a college student working part-time around there. I'm just the most compassionate person, you know. I couldn't bear to see a young man suffer, so I asked him to keep me company. I give him two hundred a month."
