"You're right," Grace Winslow said, nodding in agreement. "A woman shouldn't dress up for a man. She should dress up to please herself. You live for yourself, not for anyone else. No one is worth sacrificing that for."
Florence Sherman was shocked. She found many of Grace Winslow's ideas to be incredibly progressive.
After all, most women these days spent their entire lives living for their husbands and children.
But Grace Winslow was telling her to live for herself.
She couldn't help but smile. "Thank you. You're absolutely right. I could never understand these things before. I always wondered if it was because I wasn't good enough that he didn't want me. I was constantly doubting and blaming myself. But now I finally understand—it wasn't that I wasn't good enough. It was that he wasn't worthy."
"Gregory Thorne isn't worthy of me."
"That's the right way to think. But I have a feeling they'll still get married, so you'll get to show off this dress after all."
