"Um, Chief Grant, I think there might be a misunderstanding. I'm not really…" Grace Winslow hesitated for a long moment before carefully trying to turn down Ethan Grant's advances.
Ethan Grant cut her off. "It's alright. You don't have to give me an answer right away. There's plenty of time. I just had to say it, or I was afraid I'd regret it."
"Comrade Grace Winslow, you're an exceptional woman, and you deserve the best. So please don't use your divorce as an excuse. I'm not giving up."
Grace Winslow could only manage a helpless, wry smile.
"I'll see you in Coronet."
Ethan Grant instinctively reached out to hug her, but he stopped himself, realizing it could damage her reputation if someone saw them.
He gave Grace Winslow a wave before getting into the car waiting for him at the curb.
Grace Winslow watched the car drive away and sighed in resignation.
'I really don't know what he sees in me.'
'We've barely spent any time together—we've only met a handful of times.'
