Hector Nash lay quietly on the bed. With her head lowered and tears streaming down her face, Lara spoke. "He's given up so much for me, and now he has nothing. I can't fail him again. So, Dad... if my decision has hurt you, all I can say is I'm sorry. Please forgive me for being a bad daughter. I know you only want me to have a better life, but he's the only one who can give me the life I truly want."
Seeing Lara speaking with Hector Nash inside, her mother didn't enter the room, choosing instead to wait outside. Lara's halting voice reached her ears. Though still angry, her mother felt a sense of resignation. The thought that Ronan Joyce had paid off their family's massive debt helped to quell some of her resentment.
She walked in and said to a tear-streaked Lara, "You only just landed. Go home and get some rest."
Lara shook her head. "No, Mom. I'll stay here with you and look after Dad."
