Hearing Joy Dalton's words, Sharon Sterling knew her clever mother had caught on and was intentionally playing along. With that, Sharon grew even more confident.
"Oh, is that so..." Sharon Sterling feigned a flustered look, as if she wanted to speak but was holding back. Her expression was calibrated to perfection; anyone could see that something was amiss.
Seeing Sharon Sterling's strange expression, Mrs. Sterling asked, "What's with that look on your face? Did something happen?"
"No! Nothing happened at all!" Sharon Sterling immediately shook her head and waved her hands frantically, a guilty look plain to see in her eyes.
It was a dead giveaway.
Mrs. Sterling's brow furrowed. Sharon Sterling's denial was far too deliberate. It was obvious something had happened that she was intentionally hiding. "Tell me the truth. What happened? Did something happen to Aurora? Why else would you come back alone?"
