Mrs. Quincy was about to pay, but Cecilia Adler stopped her and paid first.
"Oh, you silly child, there's no need to be so formal with me."
Cecilia Adler smiled. "It's a gift for someone. How could I let you pay?"
"Didn't Ian's father say that both your grandparents have passed away?"
Cecilia Adler explained, "It's not for them. It's for a granny in the countryside. I owe who I am today to her guidance and teaching as I was growing up. I've been in the city for a few months now, and I don't know how she's doing."
"If you're really worried about her, have Ian take you back for a visit after you're married."
Cecilia had the same thought.
The two of them chatted as they shopped.
They parted ways only after they finished their shopping.
.....
When Cecilia Adler got home.
A relatively new bicycle was parked in the yard. She recognized it as Mr. Quincy's.
She was wondering how he'd gotten a key to her gate.
She called out tentatively, "Dad?"
