Luna Jennings huffed and puffed her way up the stairs, anxiously pressing the doorbell.
Her mother, Holly Warren, opened the door.
"Mom, what's wrong? Are you alright?" Luna Jennings asked, nervously reaching out to feel Holly Warren's forehead.
She pulled her inside as she did.
"Is this Luna? You've gotten so big."
A vaguely familiar voice suddenly chimed in.
Luna Jennings turned to look, asking in surprise, "Aunt Phoebe? Lynn?"
Her expression immediately darkened. When she was a child, this mother-daughter duo had bullied her and her mother relentlessly.
Her paternal grandmother was from the countryside and had old-fashioned ideas. Since Luna's father was her only son, all she cared about was having a male heir to carry on the family name.
But her mother's first child was a girl—her—which earned the scorn of her father's side of the family. They never missed a chance to make cutting remarks to her and her mother.
