Chapter 23 - THE ONE WHO ANSWERED

The night was still.

Ryan sat cross-legged in his room, the Cakra Kencana Kris laid horizontally in front of him. The blade reflected no light, no aura, no sign of the terror it had unleashed before.

Yet Ryan could feel it.

Not power.

Presence.

"Show yourself," Ryan said quietly."I know you're listening."

Silence.

Then—

A faint chuckle echoed inside his mind.

You are impatient for someone who nearly lost his life yesterday.

Ryan's breath steadied.

"I need answers," he replied firmly."I won't use power I don't understand."

The presence stirred.

Very slowly, a voice emerged—clear, youthful, almost playful.

Very well.

You may speak to me properly now.

The Name

"My name," the voice said,"is Satria."

Ryan's eyes narrowed.

"Satria… the spirit of the keris?"

Guardian, Satria corrected.Witness. Judge.

Ryan swallowed.

"Why me?"

The question had haunted him since he woke up.

Satria laughed softly.

Ah… that question.

You humans always think power chooses strength.

It does not.

Why Ryan Was Chosen

The Cakra Kencana does not answer ambition, Satria said.It does not answer talent. It does not answer rage.

Ryan listened without blinking.

It answers resolve tested by loss.

Ryan's chest tightened.

"You mean… when I was beaten?"

No, Satria replied calmly.Long before that.

Images surfaced in Ryan's mind.

A younger Ryan standing alone.Watching others move ahead.Choosing to endure quietly rather than complain.

You have always chosen restraint over release, Satria continued. You fear your own strength more than your enemies do.

Ryan clenched his fists.

"That doesn't sound like a qualification."

Satria's tone sharpened.

It is the only qualification.

The Criteria of the Keris

Satria spoke slowly, deliberately.

To wield the Cakra Kencana, one must meet three criteria.

Ryan leaned forward.

First: A heart that does not seek power for itself.

Ryan thought of the moment in the darkness.

He hadn't asked to win.

He had asked to protect.

Second:A will that remains intact when everything is taken away.

Ryan remembered the sound of blows. The helpless crying. The certainty of death.

You did not beg, Satria said. You chose.

Third—and this is the rarest—A soul that does not break when offered absolute power.

Ryan froze.

"What do you mean?"

Satria laughed.

Most humans, when I ask "Do you desire power?", answer without knowing why.

You answered—and then defined its purpose.

Satria's voice became quiet.

That is why you live.

The Forbidden Truths

Ryan exhaled slowly.

"There's more you're not telling me."

Satria did not deny it.

This world is layered, he said. What you see is only the surface.

Ryan's jaw tightened.

"Then tell me."

No.

The refusal was immediate.

Ryan looked up sharply.

"Why not?!"

Satria's voice hardened.

Because knowledge kills faster than ignorance.

There are mysteries that fracture the mind of the unprepared.

Ryan stood.

"I won't turn away."

Satria answered calmly.

Then grow.

The Threshold

You may not seek the deeper truths, Satria continued, until you reach Level 4, Stage 9.

Ryan frowned.

"That specific?"

Yes.

Below that, your body cannot endure the resonance.Your mind cannot bear the contradiction. And your soul will collapse.

Ryan's pulse quickened.

"What truths?"

Satria paused.

Then—

Why no one reaches Level 5 anymore.

The room felt colder.

Ryan whispered, "You know?"

I was there when the path was severed, Satria replied.

Ryan's breath caught.

"But you will not hear that story yet."

"Because I'm too weak?" Ryan asked bitterly.

Because you are still human, Satria answered.

A Choice, Not a Gift

Ryan stared at the keris.

"So what you gave me before… that wasn't everything."

Satria chuckled.

That was merely permission.

Ryan laughed once—short, humorless.

"So I'm still not strong."

No, Satria agreed cheerfully. You are dangerously incomplete.

Ryan closed his eyes.

Then opened them with resolve burning inside.

"Then train me."

The room fell silent.

Satria's presence sharpened.

Do you understand what you are asking?

Ryan nodded.

"I won't let this power hurt anyone."

"I won't let it control me."

"And I won't stop halfway."

A long pause.

Then Satria laughed—loud and delighted.

Very well.

We begin the Hell Training.

Ryan felt a chill run down his spine.

"Define 'hell'."

Satria's voice was almost gleeful.

Pain.Isolation.Breaking your limits repeatedly.

And discovering whether your resolve survives when I strip everything else away.

Ryan inhaled.

Then bowed his head.

"I'm ready."

The keris hummed softly.

For the first time—

Not as a weapon.

But as a teacher.
