No word came out from Rowan's mouth as his lips parted.
He stood still, his eyes fixed on Melissa's face for a moment in disbelief. Afterwards, his expression changed from disbelief to a knowing look.
A scoff escaped his throat as he stated more to himself than to Melissa;
"Of course, my parents have arranged everything without deeming it fit for me... the supposed groom to know anything about the arrangement." He let out a dry chuckle that was completely devoid of any humor.
Melissa heard what he said but did as if she didn't. Her hand shot out and grabbed Rowan's.
The grip was surprisingly strong.
Rowan noticed it the moment Melissa's fingers closed around his wrist, immediately pulling him toward the elevator with the pleasant efficiency of someone who had already decided how the morning would go. Her smile hadn't changed but her hand was iron.
Of course, he wanted to pull away and go about his morning the way he had planned it but his pain had other ideas.
