Chapter 94: The Battle in the Lake, Part 1
"My name will be of little importance to you. No point in saying it." Harry tapped the running water with his staff and whispered something under his breath.
"Tsk…what an arrogant boy." Bellatrix Lestrange scoffed. She just wanted to have a bit of fun after having finally escaped Azkaban.
"Move aside. I will deal with the brat." With his patience having reached its limit, Rodolphus moved in front of his wife and pointed his wand at Harry. "Cruc-"
Before he could finish his curse, a powerful water geyser burst out from beneath him, broke his broom into pieces, and sent him flying away.
The other Death Eaters didn't even understand what happened at first. Their vision was covered by a column of water from the Black Lake.
But the loud screams of Rodolphus soon brought them back to their senses.
"Brother!" Rabastan Lestrange turned his broom around, just in time to see his brother crushed by a massive hand made of water that had come out of nowhere and grabbed him.
A second later, Rodolphus' body was reduced to a mass of blood that got mixed with the waters.
"What the f-" Bellatrix quickly shifted her attention back to the young wizard from before, only to find that he was missing.
The column of water was still there, but there was no sign of Harry.
"Where did—" Bellatrix flinched when she saw something stirring beneath the surface of the water and, by pure instinct, she raised the strongest magical shield she could muster.
An instant later, she felt her shield being pelted by a barrage of water bullets.
Her companions were not so lucky, as they had been paying more attention to Rodolphus Lestrange.
Four Death Eaters fell to the assault, and their bodies joined what remained of Rodolphus inside the waters of the lake.
"Damn it!" Bellatrix cursed.
"You bastard!" Rabastan shouted. "Avada Kedavra!" The Killing Curse flew from his wand and landed beneath him, hitting the surface of the lake. "Where is he?!"
"Don't waste your stamina." Antonin Dolohov tapped on Rabastan's back. "Listen to me. Stay away from the water. We just need to find the boy and kill him. Then this trick will be over."
"You know how he is doing this?" August Rookwood appeared at their side. "Why don't we just get out of here? We already put the Dark Mark and scared these fools. What else i-"
"No! That bloody bastard killed my brother!" Rabastan screamed. "I'm not leaving without his head."
Dolohov noticed the water stirring again. "Move!" he shouted before flying away.
A dozen giant hands came out of the waters and tried to grab them, like they did with Rodolphus.
Thanks to Dolohov's warning, Rookwood and Lestrange were able to avoid them, but three other Death Eaters were grabbed and immediately killed, leaving only four of them left from the initial twelve Azkaban escapees.
Bellatrix had moved further away from the others while looking for Harry. In a moment of distraction, she grew too close to the waters and, before she could react, a dozen gigantic tentacles came out, grasping at her legs and arms.
"Ahh! What is this?!" But as a former Hogwarts student, she knew what it was. This was the giant squid that everyone knew lived inside the lake.
It was now assisting the water spirit in getting rid of the invaders.
Bellatrix Lestrange could only scream and try to wrestle the tentacles, but to no avail. The creature was too strong for the witch. And now that she was at its mercy, she was soon dragged beneath the surface of the waters, never to be seen again.
"Bella! Fuck!" Rabastan saw his sister-in-law being killed by the squid. He threw several curses, but these only disturbed the surface of the lake and did nothing more.
"Okay, we need t-" Dolohov saw the waters moving once more and instinctively raised a magical shield around him.
However, what came next was not an attack. It was Harry Potter, who emerged from the depths of the lake.
He was standing on a large mass of water that kept rising into the air until he was at the same height as they were.
"There is the boy!" Rookwood pointed his wand at Harry and shot with no hesitation. "Avada Kedavra!"
Harry did not move from his spot. He remained still and allowed the spirit to act.
From the shapeless mass beneath him, hundreds of limbs emerged and placed themselves before him, creating a protective layer of water that stopped the curse.
The water limbs exploded and broke apart, but soon reformed.
"What…is that?" Dolohov had no words to describe it. What they were all seeing was a colossal spherical mass of water with countless long arms protruding from its surface.
Harry was standing on top, with his staff in hand.
"Noo!!"
They suddenly heard Rabastan shout and found him with a spear embedded in his shoulder.
"Look! It's the merpeople!" Rookwood had to move in order to avoid the spears that were being thrown at them.
"Tsk! Those beasts are attacking us too?" Dolohov clenched his fist. It was like they were at war with the whole population of the lake. It wasn't just the squid after all.
The moment of distraction caused by the merpeople was enough for Rookwood to be grabbed by one of the water spirit's hands.
Augustus Rookwood let out a bloodcurdling scream as the water hands grabbed onto his own limbs and ripped him apart with no mercy.
"I warned you…" The voice of Harry was soft, but it could clearly be heard in the entire lake and its vicinity. "I am the one you needed to contend with."
Dolohov and the wounded Rabastan were the only ones left. They exchanged one quick look and nodded. The decision had been made. It was time to run away.
Harry raised his staff in the air. "It's too late now…you had your chance and didn't use it. Now…neither of you is leaving this place."
