"Leech!!!"
The moment he saw it, rage exploded through him like fire.
Two of his closest comrades in Iwagakure.
One was Dashi.
The other was Leech.
And now, both of them had died at the hands of the same man.
The fury rose from the soles of his feet straight to his head, so fierce it felt like his skull might split open.
He was just about to charge forward when a figure dropped in front of him and blocked his path.
"Oi, Kagerō. Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Tsuchimochi grabbed Kagerō by the shoulder, his expression grim.
The situation had already gone beyond troublesome.
Their enemy wasn't just overwhelmingly strong in direct combat.
He also possessed a large-scale killing technique that made closing in carelessly no different from suicide.
Because of that, Tsuchimochi didn't dare send the main force in recklessly. For now, all they could do was stall and wait for stronger reinforcements from the rear.
Unfortunately for him, Yagami had no intention of standing around and giving them that chance.
The moment Tsuchimochi turned his back on him to stop Kagerō, Yagami raised his left hand.
A beam of golden light shot out without warning, aimed straight at the back of Tsuchimochi's head.
"Move!!!"
The instant the light flashed, Kagerō's eyes widened.
Without hesitation, he shoved Tsuchimochi aside.
Boom!!
"Gahhh!!"
The shrill scream of the laser tore through the air right beside Tsuchimochi's ear.
Because Kagerō had pushed him away in time, Tsuchimochi narrowly escaped death.
But Kagerō's right hand was caught by the blast, and two of his fingers were blown clean off.
Blood splashed across Tsuchimochi's face, staining the left side bright red.
"Kagerō!!"
Tsuchimochi hit the ground hard, shock written all over his face.
He had barely started to push himself back up when golden light flared behind him once more.
"Earth Style: Earth Flow Wall!"
Rumble!!
A shout rang out across the battlefield.
In the next instant, a thick earthen wall rose up behind Tsuchimochi, barely intercepting the laser before it could hit.
Even so, the force of the explosion sent both Tsuchimochi and Kagerō flying through the air.
Boom! Boom!
"Ara, what a shame."
As the two crashed to the ground, Yagami's lazy, almost regretful voice drifted over.
That attack had come dangerously close to taking out two jōnin at once.
"You two all right?!"
The two jōnin rushing in from the rear quickly reached them and helped Tsuchimochi and Kagerō back to their feet.
The Earth Flow Wall had been cast by one of them just in time.
"I'm fine," Tsuchimochi said immediately, then looked toward the other man. "Kagerō's the one who got hit."
Kagerō's right hand was a mess.
His little finger and ring finger were gone completely.
"It's nothing serious."
Grimacing, Kagerō tore a strip of cloth from his clothes and wrapped it tightly around his injured palm without hesitation.
Then he lifted his head and glared at Yagami.
"This bastard's strong. We take him together."
The other three jōnin nodded, their expressions heavy.
Yagami had only made a few moves since appearing.
But that alone had been enough to put enormous pressure on all of them.
"Shōhei's here too!"
Someone from the rear shouted.
Hearing that, Kagerō turned and glanced back before letting out a short laugh.
Four jōnin against a Kage-level opponent had been bad enough.
Even they couldn't say for sure they had the upper hand.
But with two more arriving as support, the pressure on their side eased a little.
Tap. Tap.
Only a breath later, the two reinforcements landed beside them.
"Kagerō, you alive?"
One of them glanced at the blood still dripping from Kagerō's hand and frowned.
Among the jōnin gathered here, he was the strongest.
"I'll live," Kagerō said, taking a slow breath. "But be careful. That Konoha shinobi… he can use jutsu without hand seals."
"Oh?"
The newcomer's eyes narrowed.
"Six jōnin now…" Yagami said, looking them over with exaggerated surprise. "How terrifying."
His tone, though, held no fear at all.
Only mockery similar to a certain pirate world's lewd looking uncle with a yellow suit.
The truth was, after obtaining the power of the devil fruit, Yagami had become nearly untouchable.
Six jōnin?
Even six Kage-level opponents wouldn't make him flinch.
As long as he could turn his body into light, he held an overwhelming advantage.
"What's wrong?" the lead jōnin said coldly, stepping forward. "From the way you're talking, it sounds like you don't even consider the six of us a threat."
The other five jōnin stared at Yagami in silence, anger simmering in their eyes.
His words weren't just arrogant.
They were blatant contempt.
In their minds, six jōnin against one Kage-level fighter meant the advantage was clearly theirs.
"You should've brought the two jinchūriki with you too," Yagami said with a faint smile.
"At least then… you might have a chance to run."
On the road here, he had already sensed two unusually sinister chakra signatures.
Full of hatred and cold violence.
It reminded him of Kushina's chakra when the Nine-Tails' presence leaked through.
That was why he had realized immediately that Iwagakure's two jinchūriki had also entered the battlefield.
"You've got a big mouth," one of the Iwa jōnin snapped.
"Even if your Hokage were standing here, he wouldn't dare say something that arrogant."
The surrounding Iwa shinobi, who had been watching from farther back, erupted into furious shouting the moment they heard Yagami's words.
Naturally, Yagami ignored every last one of them.
"I'm being nice enough to warn you," he said casually.
Then he lifted his hand.
Particles of light gathered instantly, condensing once again into a glowing blade in his palm.
"Since you're so eager…"
His smile sharpened.
"Come and test it yourselves."
