Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Seven Floors

"We clear it."

Elena's voice cut through the morning air. They stood at the dungeon's first floor entrance.

"All of it?" Marcus asked.

"Until we hit a wall. Or die trying." She manifested her rapier. "We need power. Fast. This is the safest way to get it."

Jayden's eye pulsed. Scanned the darkness ahead.

[DUNGEON ANALYSIS: Unknown depth. Estimated floors: 15-20. Current threat level: Moderate.]

"We go careful. Mark our path. Don't get lost."

Zain slammed stone markers into the ground. One every fifty feet. "Breadcrumbs."

"Let's move."

FLOOR ONE: STONE CORRIDORS

Shadow wolves. F-rank. Dozen of them.

The team moved like water.

Marcus tanked front. Zain covered flanks. Elena struck from angles. Cinna healed from range.

And Jayden—

He was everywhere.

Shadow Step. Blink. Behind a wolf. Blade through its spine.

Blink. Next target. Slash.

His eye showed three futures. He picked the one where nobody got hurt.

Ten seconds. Twelve wolves dead.

"Clear."

They pushed deeper.

FLOOR TWO: CRYSTAL CAVERNS

Essence golems. E-rank. Tougher.

Marcus's stone fists cracked their armor. Zain's gauntlets shattered cores.

Elena's ice froze joints. Made them brittle.

Jayden watched. Learned.

His eye absorbed everything. Combat data. Weak points. Patterns.

[GOLEM WEAKNESS IDENTIFIED: Chest cavity. Strike angle: 34 degrees.]

He moved. Shadow Step behind the largest golem.

One strike. Precise. Perfect.

The golem collapsed.

"Nice," Elena said.

They cleared the floor in twenty minutes.

FLOOR THREE: FLOODED CHAMBERS

Water essence beasts. Serpents. Fast.

Cinna struggled. Water wasn't her element.

Marcus couldn't swim well with stone armor.

Elena and Zain held the line while Jayden adapted.

His eye calculated trajectories through water. Showed him how currents moved.

He became a blur. Shadow Step worked underwater. Barely.

Five serpents. Seven strikes. Done.

"We're getting better," Cinna said.

"We're getting hungry," Marcus countered.

They found a dry chamber. Rested. Ate dried meat.

Six hours into day one.

Three floors cleared.

FLOOR FOUR: BURNING CORRIDORS

Fire essence beasts. Salamanders. D-rank.

The heat was suffocating.

Elena's ice evaporated before impact. Marcus's stone cracked.

But Jayden's shadow thrived in firelight.

Every flame cast darkness. Every darkness was a path.

He moved through them like a ghost. Shadow Step. Strike. Step. Strike.

His blade—shadow and lightning—cut through fire like it was nothing.

[PASSIVE GROWTH ACTIVATED]

[Attack Power: 4.3 → 5.8 units]

Finally. His strength was catching up to his speed.

They cleared the floor covered in burns and sweat.

But alive.

DAY ONE END: FLOOR FIVE ENTRANCE

They made camp. Set watches.

Jayden checked his stats.

[Speed: 19.4 units (stable)]

[Attack Power: 5.8 units]

[Team Synergy: 67%]

Not bad for one day.

"Tomorrow we push harder," Elena said.

Nobody argued.

FLOOR FIVE: SHADOW REALM

Everything was dark. No light. No fire. Just void.

Perfect for Jayden.

His eye glowed crimson. Lit the way.

Shadow beasts emerged. C-rank. Dangerous.

But fighting in pure darkness?

Jayden's home territory.

Shadow Step had no cooldown. No limits here.

He was teleporting every second. Blade flashing. Shadows consuming shadows.

The team followed his light. Trusted his lead.

Marcus's fists found targets Jayden marked. Elena's ice froze what Jayden slowed.

Zain and Cinna covered rear. Perfect formation.

[Team Synergy: 67% → 78%]

They moved like one organism.

Floor cleared in fifteen minutes.

FLOOR SIX: COLLAPSING TUNNELS

The dungeon fought back.

Walls crumbled. Ceilings fell. Stone golems AND environmental hazards.

Jayden's eye went into overdrive.

[PROBABILITY MATRIX: 847 possible futures analyzed in 0.00001 seconds]

[OPTIMAL PATH: Highlighted]

"Left! Now!"

They dodged. Ceiling collapsed behind them.

"Right! Jump!"

Floor gave way. They leaped.

His predictions kept them alive. Barely.

Marcus took a hit. Stone to the shoulder. Cinna healed him mid-run.

They reached the exit bloodied. Exhausted.

But victorious.

[Attack Power: 5.8 → 7.2 units]

Jayden was getting stronger. Finally.

DAY TWO: FLOOR SEVEN

The boss floor.

They felt it before they saw it. Essence pressure. Heavy. Oppressive.

A chamber opened before them. Massive. Arena-sized.

And in the center—

A knight. Essence-forged armor. Sword glowing. C+ rank.

[FLOOR GUARDIAN: Void Knight]

[Speed: 17.3 units. Power: 19.8 units.]

[Warning: Lethal threat.]

The knight charged.

Marcus met it head-on. Stone vs steel. The impact boomed.

Marcus flew backward. Three ribs cracked.

"Shit!" Cinna rushed to heal.

Zain tried next. His gauntlets barely scratched the armor.

Elena's ice shattered on contact.

The knight was too strong.

Jayden's eye blazed.

[ANALYZING...]

[WEAKNESS FOUND: Neck joint. 2mm gap. Requires precision strike.]

[SUCCESS PROBABILITY: 34%]

Not good odds.

But better than zero.

"Distract it. Ten seconds."

"What are you—"

"JUST DO IT!"

They attacked. All four. Everything they had.

The knight focused on them.

Jayden circled. Shadow Step. Once. Twice. Finding the angle.

His eye showed him the future. Twelve paths. One success.

He took it.

Shadow Step behind the knight. Blade extended. Lightning crackling.

The 2mm gap. Right there.

He struck.

Perfect precision. Perfect timing.

His blade pierced through. Severed the essence core.

The knight froze.

Then collapsed.

Silence.

Then Marcus whooped. "HOLY SHIT!"

[FLOOR SEVEN: CLEARED]

[MASSIVE GROWTH DETECTED]

Light consumed them all.

When it faded, they were different.

[JAYDEN: Attack Power 7.2 → 9.7 units]

[MARCUS: Speed 11.2 → 13.1 units. NEW MANIFESTATION UNLOCKED: Earth Titan Armor]

[ELENA: Attack Power 14.2 → 16.8 units]

[ZAIN: Speed 13.2 → 14.9 units]

[CINNA: Healing Range 15m → 25m]

Marcus stared at his hands. Stone armor formed. Not gauntlets. Full body. Towering. Powerful.

"I'm a fucking tank now."

Jayden checked his blade. Felt the weight. The power.

9.7 attack. Finally respectable.

"Seven floors. Two days." Elena looked at the path ahead. "How many more?"

Jayden's eye pulsed.

[ESTIMATED REMAINING FLOORS: 8-13]

"At least eight."

"Then we rest today. Hit it again tomorrow." Zain collapsed. "I'm done."

They made camp at the floor seven entrance. Safe zone.

That night, Jayden watched his team sleep.

Two days. Seven floors. They'd become a real unit.

Not just survivors.

Warriors.

His eye flickered. Showed him futures.

Paths where they won. Paths where they died.

The ratio was improving.

67% survival. Up from 34%.

"Maybe we'll actually make it," he whispered.

His eye pulsed agreement.

Tomorrow they'd push deeper.

Tonight they'd earned their rest.

End of Chapter 20

[PROGRESS: 7 floors cleared in 2 days. Jayden: Attack 9.7. Marcus: New manifestation (Earth Titan Armor). Team synergy: 78%. Survival probability: 67%. Eight floors remain.]
