Chapter 264 - Chapter 264: Exploration and Conversation, Lacus's Heartache

After hearing the response, a look of shock rose in Felix's eyes. He opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing, lowering his head as he sank into deep thought.

While lost in contemplation, Felix realized Lacus might be able to hear his thoughts, so he deliberately tried to avoid such a scenario.

Lacus looked at Felix and spoke with a serious tone.

"I can't hear anything now."

Upon hearing this, Felix stopped his pondering, looked up at Lacus, and asked,

"You can't hear anymore?"

Lacus nodded in response.

"Yes."

Seeing this, Felix recalled what he had just been doing. As Felix was reflecting, Lacus also tried to remember what had just happened.

Between their recollections, Felix was the first to speak.

"Lacus, try listening to what I'm thinking in my heart again."

Lacus nodded upon hearing this.

"Okay."

After hearing her agreement, Felix thought inwardly,

'Lacus is the most beautiful!'

Lacus looked up at Felix and nodded toward him.

"I heard what you were thinking in your heart." As she replied, she articulated, "You were thinking, 'Lacus is the most beautiful.'"

As she spoke, Lacus couldn't help but blush.

Felix looked at Lacus, nodded, and then spoke again.

"Lacus, try it once more this time."

After saying this, Felix thought about not letting others hear and then inwardly repeated,

'Lacus is the most beautiful.'

Lacus looked at Felix, frowned, and then shook her head.

Seeing this, Felix spoke to Lacus once more.

"Lacus, try not to listen to my inner thoughts."

With a gentle smile, Lacus replied aloud,

"Alright."

Felix stopped deliberately trying to prevent others from hearing his thoughts and once again repeated the same inner phrase.

After thinking it, Felix asked Lacus,

"Could you hear it?"

Upon hearing the question, Lacus looked up at Felix and shook her head with a serious expression.

"No."

Hearing her answer, Felix combined the results of the previous experiments and understood everything clearly.

Looking at Lacus, Felix explained in detail,

"Lacus, this ability we have to hear each other's inner thoughts only works when the listener deliberately tries to hear and the one being listened to intentionally allows it to be heard.

If the listener doesn't deliberately try to hear, they won't hear anything, and if the one being listened to intentionally prevents others from hearing, then others won't be able to hear either."

Lacus lowered her head and thought carefully before nodding in agreement.

"It really is just as you said."

After replying, Lacus continued with a curious and somewhat puzzled expression,

"I wonder how far this ability of ours to hear each other's inner thoughts can reach."

"We'll find out when we test it later."

Seeing the curiosity and confusion on Lacus's face, Felix responded to her with a gentle smile.

Lacus looked up at Felix, her expression returning to normal as she nodded very seriously.

After saying this, Lacus shifted her position to sit side by side with Felix. She pressed her body tightly against him and rested her head on his shoulder.

Watching Lacus's movements, Felix reached out and embraced his lover, tilting his head slightly to gaze at the top of her head.

"Felix, do you think this might be the true evolution of humanity?"

In the calm silence, Lacus asked thoughtfully.

Hearing her question, Felix pondered carefully before nodding.

"I think it might be exactly as you imagine—this is humanity's evolution."

After responding, Felix recalled some unusual experiences he had previously and turned to ask Lacus.

"Lacus, can you generate something like line trajectories in your mind?"

"Line trajectories?" Lacus looked puzzled, voicing her confusion aloud. She lifted her gaze to Felix's profile, thought carefully, and then shook her head.

"I don't seem to have anything like that in my mind."

As she spoke, Lacus shifted the topic and asked in return.

"Felix, can you sense these things?"

Felix nodded, recalling his previous combat experiences, and then answered.

"I sensed them during battle before. Those MS, missiles, and even fired beams would appear as lines in my mind.

Even when some MS, missiles, or beams just started moving, these line trajectories would appear."

Lacus listened to this description and tried hard to understand but couldn't figure out what it meant.

Unable to comprehend, Lacus spoke with a confused expression.

"What kind of ability is this?"

Hearing Lacus's confusion, Felix continued.

"Besides these, I can also determine the positions of other targets in my mind without looking in their direction at all.

It feels like positioning—very precise and over long distances."

Upon hearing this, Lacus lifted her head from Felix's shoulder, her expression shocked as she asked for confirmation.

"Felix, can you locate the Eternal?"

Looking at Lacus, Felix shook his head.

"I've tried. This ability seems to only locate objects within about a thousand kilometers at most, and the further the distance, the more mental energy it consumes. It becomes increasingly exhausting."

At this point, Felix took a deep breath and added.

"As for how far it can reach on Earth, I'm not sure. I haven't tested it on Earth yet."

Hearing this, Lacus thought carefully before speaking with concern.

"Felix, is using this ability very painful?"

Looking at Lacus, Felix asked in confusion.

"Why do you ask that?"With pain in her eyes, Lacus replied."

"Having hundreds, thousands, or even more targets all appearing in your mind during battle must place a huge burden on your brain. That burden must be exhausting and painful."

Listening to Lacus's explanation, Felix felt warmth in his heart. He reached out, pulled Lacus into his embrace, gently patted her shoulder, and comforted her in a soft voice.

"It's alright. I've gotten used to it."

Lacus heard Felix's gentle and calm response, her eyes reddening instantly as if tears were welling up in them.

Tilting her head slightly to look at Felix's shoulder, she spoke with a voice full of remorse.

"I'm sorry, I actually didn't notice your suffering."

"It's fine, there's no suffering at all." He shook his head in reply, then Felix smiled reassuringly. "Lacus, it's alright, really alright. You did nothing wrong."

Hearing such plain yet ordinary comfort, Lacus softly called out Felix's name.

"Felix."

Felix held Lacus tighter and said with a smile,

"I'm here! I'll always be here!"
