Chapter 78 - The Public Revolt

Chapter —The Public Revolt

The damp, jagged walls of the dungeon felt more oppressive than usual.

The members of Aurafiest moved like a well-oiled machine, their coordination reflecting months of hard-fought experience.

With a final, synchronized strike, they brought down the massive, scale-covered beast that had been terrorizing the sector.

Chika and Uno cheered, wiping sweat from their brows as the monster's form began to dissolve into grey ash.

"That's another one cleared!" Uno shouted, slamming his fist into his palm.

"We're getting faster at this."

But the celebration didn't last five seconds…

A low, guttural vibration shook the cavern floor, sending loose stones tumbling from the ceiling.

The air grew cold, smelling of rot and ancient magic.

"Everyone, get back!" Marin screamed, her eyes widening as she sensed a surge of energy deeper in the shadows.

"There's another one! Another monster is coming!"

"How?!" Chika cried, her voice rising in panic.

"A single dungeon only has one guardian boss. It's impossible for two to exist in the same space!"

But the impossible was standing right in front of them…

A second creature, even larger than the first, with multiple glowing eyes and limbs like twisted iron, crawled out of the darkness.

While the others scrambled into defensive positions, Luke stood frozen.

His mind was not on the monster, but on the terrifying text he had read in the ancestral book.

The architect of the shield shall suffer severe internal aura-rupture... Potential for death: 98%.

The numbers were looping in his brain like a death knell…

He realized that the appearance of two monsters in a single dungeon was the omen Auru had warned him about.

The devils were gaining strength at an exponential rate.

The one-year deadline wasn't just a guess; it was an optimistic estimate.

The world was rotting from the inside out…

"Luke! Move!" Marin's voice broke through the static in his head, but it felt miles away.

Luke looked up just as a massive, clawed arm swung toward him with the speed of a falling guillotine.

He was lost in the abyss of his own thoughts, his reflexes dulled by the crushing weight of the sacrifice he knew he had to make.

By the time his senses returned, the claw was inches from his chest.

He couldn't dodge.

He couldn't even raise a shield.

BOOM!

A brilliant, jagged Aura Sphere streaked from the side, colliding with the monster's arm and shattering its limb into a spray of dark fluid.

The beast roared in agony, collapsing to the ground.

Luke stumbled back, gasping for air.

He looked toward the source of the blast.

Standing at the entrance of the chamber was Kael…

"Kael?" Marin asked, her hands still glowing with blue energy.

"What are you doing here? You're supposed to be recovering!"

Kael stepped forward, his expression humble yet determined.

"I was passing by the area... I heard the sounds of battle coming from the rift. I knew it was illegal for me to enter a dungeon without a permit, but my heart wouldn't let me walk away while my friends were inside. Let's end this thing together."

With Kael's added firepower, the second beast didn't stand a chance.

The group combined their techniques, Kael's sharp offensive blasts complementing Marin's speed and Uno's barriers.

Within minutes, the second monster was nothing more than a memory.

"We have to tell Kaizen," Marin said, her face grim as she looked at the empty dungeon.

"Two bosses in one rift... the world is changing faster than we thought."

Kael turned to the group, his head bowed.

"Marin... everyone... can I join Aurafiest? I know I was a monster before. I know I don't deserve your trust. But I want to spend the rest of my life making up for the darkness I let in."

The group shared a long look.

They saw the sincerity in his eyes—the same eyes that had once been consumed by shadow were now clear and full of a quiet, desperate hope…

"We're heading to the Guild Headquarters now," Marin replied with a soft smile.

"We'll get you registered. Welcome back, Kael."

The journey back to the city was filled with an uneasy tension.

As they approached the Guild Headquarters, the usual quiet of the administrative district was gone.

It had been replaced by a roar.

Thousands of people were gathered outside the massive stone building, waving banners and shouting in a cacophony of anger.

Riot police stood in a thin line, their shields vibrating under the pelt of stones and debris.

"What is going on?" Liod asked, his hand hovering over his flame-wreathed fist.

"Is this a protest?"

"It's a revolt," Uno whispered, looking at the sheer scale of the crowd…

"We can't go through the front," Marin said, her tactical mind taking over.

"Let's use the back entrance—the one hidden near the old engraving. It leads directly to the executive wing."

The group moved through the shadows, slipping past the angry mob and entering through the narrow, reinforced steel door at the rear of the complex.

They sprinted through the corridors, the muffled sounds of the riot echoing through the walls like distant thunder…

They burst into Kaizen's office to find the him standing by the window, his silhouette framed by the flickering lights of the fires in the streets below.

"Kaizen! What is happening?" Marin asked, rushing to his desk.

Kaizen turned, his face looking ten years older than it had that morning.

"The Council," he said, his voice heavy.

"Auron dissolved them and gave us the administration, but the transition has been a disaster. The people are demanding to know why the Council was suddenly removed. They want transparency."

"So tell them!" Liod shouted.

"Tell them they were sold out to the devils!"

"We can't," he snapped, turning from his screens.

"How do you tell a world of eight billion people that their leaders were puppets for monsters? How do you tell them that the dungeons are becoming more powerful every hour? If we tell them the full truth, the global economy will collapse, and the riots we see now will turn into a global civil war. Panic is more dangerous than the devils right now…"

All feel a weight in them.

"This isn't just happening in Japan. This revolt is happening in every major city on Earth. London, New York, Delhi, Paris... the people feel the change in the air, and they think we are the ones hiding the truth to control them."

Luke stood in the corner of the room, his hood pulled low.

He watched the chaos on the screens—the world was tearing itself apart before the devils even had to fire a single shot…

Political tension is the first step of the invasion, Luke thought.

If they are divided, the Aura Earth Shield won't matter.

You can't protect a world that wants to destroy itself…

He looked at Kaizen, then at his own trembling hands.

He knew what he had to do.

As Auron, he could command the world's respect, but as Luke, he saw the human cost of the secrets they were keeping.

"We need a distraction," Luke whispered, though no one heard him over the shouting.

"We need to give them a hope that is bigger than their anger…"

He knew the price of that hope was his own life, but seeing the world on fire made the 98% death rate seem like a small price to pay…
