Chapter 15 - Chapter Fourteen

When Qin Yue opened his eyes, he was met with the sight of Xu Wei hovering over him.

"If one didn't know better, they would think you were the grim reaper here for my soul"

Xu Wei's blank eyes snapped into focus.

"Don't think I don't dare to scold you just because you got yourself in this situation"

Qin Yue started to sit up and Xu Wei hurriedly assisted him. He cleared his throat softly.

"Not on purpose"

Xu Wei handed him a glass of water while rolling his eyes.

"It's never on purpose"

Qin Yue sipped his water quietly, knowing better than to speak at this point.

Xu Wei didn't need much prompting to continue.

"The doctor said your sight might regress if things keep happening.

Qin Yue's hand holding the glass tightened ever so slightly. He slowly dropped the glass on the table.

"I know"

"Then why don't you take care of your health?"

Qin Yue struggled to make an argument

"I do"

Xu Wei scoffed.

"Not well enough"

Qin Yue was speechless

"You know this was an accident, right? It's not like i stood with my arms open in the middle of the road waiting for an unlucky driver to clear me off the road"

"You might as well have. The doctor clearly told you not to spend long hours looking at a screen, but you ignored that didn't you?"

Qin Yue felt awkward. Since when had he become the one to be lectured like a child?

"You have a point..I mean you're completely right." He changed his words under Xu Wei's glare.

"I understand what you mean but my work requires me to stare at the screen for extensive periods at a time."

"But you don't have to. You have the most laid-back fanbase to ever exist. You could go MIA for months and they won't have a problem as long as you come back eventually. I don't understand why you're pushing yourself so hard when it's not even necessary."

"Because I don't want to let them down. By the way, do you know where my drawing pad is? I left it in my bag."

Xu Wei took in a deep breath

"You-- I need to head out for a while"

He stepped out and Qin Yue leaned wearily on the pillow.

A nurse walked in and greeted him with familiarity.

"A'Yue, still making your friend worry I see.

Qin Yue smiled resignedly.

"What can I do? The universe seems to enjoy toying with me."

She was one of the nurses who was son call when he was injured the first time and assisted with his recovery so they could be said to be acquaintances.

She checked him over carefully.

"Don't lose hope. Ther's a reason why you're still here despite everything."

"Thank you."

She packed everything with a smile.

"I don't hope to see you soon"

Qin Yue laughed softly

'Likewise."

Shortly after she left, Xu Wei walked back in.

"You'll be discharged within the week. You're coming back with me."

Qin Yue raised an eyebrow.

"I don't think all that's necessary. I've learnt my lesson and will pay more attention to my health."

"Then where are you going to stay?"

Qin Yue blinked innocently."Back to my house of course"

Xu Wei sighed exaggeratedly.

"Can't you learn to rely on me just this once? I talked to your landlord after learning you were on your way to a hotel with an overnight bag. Can you tell me why I didn't know you were given a quit notice?"

Qin Yue ran a hand over his face and let out a long sigh

"I didn't want to bother you with my affairs."

"You could never be a bother even if you tried. But you don't seem to understand that. You're my friend. I know you would go the extra mile for me so let me do the same for you.

At this point, there was no way Qin Yue could refuse so he just changed the topic.

"Do you know what caused the accident?"

Xu Wei observed him for a second before reluctantly accepting the change.

"Supposedly, the car tire burst open despite constant maintenance. No one else was harmed, you can rest assured."

"That's a relief then"

"Since we're on this topic then I'll throw your words back at you. It was an accident. You had no control over that. If anything, you're the biggest victim here."

The conversation ended at an impasse. Logically, Qin Yue knew Xu Wei was right but emotionally, he couldn't stand the thought of so many people being affected by him.

Two days later, Qin Yue finally got discharged with several warnings to pay more attention to his health.

Xu Wei helped him pack up and they both got into the backseat of the taxi, driving directly to Xu Wei's house.

They went in and Qin Yue immediately noticed the house seemed emptier than usual.

"Are you planning to move?"

"Huh?"

Qin Yue gestured and his eyes widened in understanding.

"No, not moving. Just made some changes to the decor."

Qin Yue nodded slightly, following behind Xu Wei to the guest bedroom.

"This is your room. There are a desk and lamp for when you need to work. But remember, limited to one hour at a time. I'll check on you regularly."

Qin Yue pursed his lips slightly. Don't worry, I'll act in moderation.'

Xu Wei said a few words of concern before walking out and closing the door behind him.

Qin Yue fell back heavily on the bed. He was exhausted.

But Xu Wei's words were not without basis. He had been so focused on trying to prov his worth that he sometimes ignored his health.

While he wasn't willing to drop everything and be treated like someone who couldn't take of themselves, there was nothing wrong with taking a step back until he got better.

Qin Yue grabbed his tablet and set his alarm, making sure to drop the stylus once the alarm rung. Although his hands itched to continue, he was disciplined enough not to do so.

Not sure if he would be able to keep resisting the urge, Qin Yue had a quick shower and went to bed.
