Chapter 7 - The Guildmaster and Her

Elfie, who had disappeared somewhere, was in fact moving upward, taking the elevator to the top floor. She arrived shortly. A single room was located on the top floor, with a blackwood door. She knocked on the door gently, and the person behind it responded.

''Oh? It's Elfie. Come in.'' a rough male voice said and Elfie pushed the door open and entered, her face perfectly calm.

The room was simple, an elegant sofa with velvet interior with a simple table before it, then a desk with a giant seating behind it, reviewing and signing countless papers stacked in front of him.

Although, the term giant was used it doesn't mean literally a being from the giant race, simply put he was taller than your average human, beyond 2 meters and half, short gray hair in mohawk style, three claw shaped scars running diagonally across his face, his ears more elongated than that of human, he was full of muscles threatening to burst out from the barrister clothes he was wearing, his green eyes were sharp like that of a venomous snake lurking in the darkness and ready to devour its prey, overall he gave a rather intimidating vibe, even a clueless beggar could tell this man before them was a behemoth, his name is Basil Evergreen, the guild master of the Adventurer guild within this Kingdom, one of its behemoths.

Elfie sat unceremoniously before Basil, if outsiders were to see this, they would be shocked speechless, to dare to behave like that before the powerful guild master was tantamount to suicide but if they knew really who she was, they would be shocked, she was no mere receptionist.

As soon as Elfie sat down, Basil stopped reviewing the documents in front of him and gave his full attention to the lady in front of him. He snapped his fingers and mysteriously two steaming hot coffee cups appeared in their hands, black coffee, they took a mouthful of it before he lifted his head.

''So, what brings you here this time?"

''Two unusual individuals have appeared and have registered.'' Elfie simply announced which picked his curiosity.

''Oh? Do elaborate, they must be pretty interesting for the Swift Gale to utter those words.'' Basil's eyebrows rose, he ended his sentence with a little jab, earning a silent deadly pressure from the woman before him but it vanished as quickly as it came.

''An Angel and a Demon.'' she dropped a bomb, Basil almost jumped from his seat.

''Say what?"

His reaction was understandable, to think some beings from the Mystical races would appear, two at that.

Elfie perfectly understood his reaction and before he could ask if they came to cause trouble because everyone knew that those two never got along, she dropped another bomb.

''They are a couple.'' She calmly sipped her black coffee while waiting to watch Basil's interesting reaction and indeed his reaction was.

He jumped out of his seat, his eyes almost falling out comically from their sockets, it was a truly amusing sight to behold.

''What in Mother God name is happening? A Storm is coming,'' he mumbled at the end of his sentence while sitting back. He massaged his temple, feeling a headache coming.

''So tell me why do you come to see? I bet it's not only to share this bomb isn't it?"

Facing his inquiry Elfie chuckled.

''Of course I don't have time to waste.''

Basil rolled his eyes at her thinking 'Yes you do have it, if not you won't be playing this little game of receptionist in my guild', of course he didn't dare to voice out this thought or else the consequence was something he wasn't ready to shoulder, don't be swayed by how gentle she looks, in book elves are often beautified, portrayed as gentle and beautiful nature loving souls but he knew the truth, they are bunch of savages you better not to mess with.

Suddenly, a chilling aura spread through the room, startling him out of his revelry.

''You are not thinking of something rude are you?" Elfie asked with a smile that wasn't a smile.

Feeling a cold sweat running through his forehead, Basil shook his head frantically to vehemently deny it.

''I thought so,'' she responded with a sweet smile that hinted 'You know the consequence if you do.'

''Ah! Let me continue. The unusual couple registered after selling me some interesting monster corpses. The demon-kin said she didn't wish to start from the bottom, it would be a waste of their strength, if possible they wished to take a shortcut to the top hence the reason of my visit.'' she ended her explanation while staring into his eyes, he sighed, finally understood the real reason of her presence but first there was a few things he needs to confirm.

''Tell me are they worth the risk?"

The first question entails whether or not they should risk offending the Holy Church by extension the Holy Empire, those fanatics, that behemoth of existence on the continent just to register this unusual couple, he wasn't particularly afraid of them per se but they could be a headache to deal with, he had to ascertain the risk.

Elfie smiled, it was a beautiful smile. ''Of course they're.''

It was a firm assessment which almost convinced him except for her next sentence.

''Won't it be fun to be at the center of the storm?"

''You little-" Basil almost let a curse slip but managed to retain himself at the last moment, he massaged his throbbing temple before raising his next question, this one equally if not more important.

''Are they strong?''

Her response was immediate.

''Minimum Mystic Rank!"

This new hit Basil hard, he almost cursed at the unfairness of life, certain races being privileged more than others. He almost spat 'Mystic races fuckers.'

''They are strong if not stronger than you and me,'' Elfie added, her face having lost all its usual playfulness, as if ascertain something, her thought at the moment unknown.

Basil's eyes became serious he contemplated for a moment before finally giving his answer.

''We shall conduct the special Test you and I tomorrow.''

As if she had expected a response like this she nodded.

''Sure!"

Then rose to her feet and left the room, left alone Basil looked out of the window, the previously sunny sky darkened as if to announce the incoming storm.

''Sigh! Why did it have to be in my guild? Seriously, give me a fucking break!" He spat, venting his frustration at nobody in particular but beneath his green eyes, something was growing, an excitement to face a powerful foe after a long while.
