Chapter 182 - Bait (182)

Kairo lay sprawled across his bed, staring up at the ceiling in pure annoyance. This was absolute bullshit. Sure, on the bright side, he could use the free time to look through a few forbidden seals, but being grounded over this was still annoying as fuck.

He stood up abruptly, pacing the floor while thinking deeply about his current strength.

He was already powerful enough to stall—if not outright kill—an Admiral. Unlike his future self, who would probably just charge headfirst into a mindless fight, he actually possessed this wonderful thing called technology. With enough preparation, he could take down almost anyone.

He sighed. Maybe later this week he'd train against the Roger hologram.

His people possessed advanced holograms of nearly every legendary figure who was currently alive or had lived centuries ago. The strongest among them was Joyboy from 800 years ago, though no one had used that simulation in ages—it could only be unlocked by the Drums of Liberation, and you pretty much needed to awaken the Nika fruit to trigger that.

He sighed again. He could always fight Xebec; his people had plenty of combat data on that bastard. Or he could just practice his ninjutsu a bit more.

With nothing better to do for the next four hours, he sat at his desk and began scribbling down ninjutsu theories and ancient lore into his private notebook. He was having the absolute time of his life. In that short span, he even managed to map out the foundational theory behind forging a Black Blade, as well as the mechanics for the Reanimation Jutsu. Both techniques were strictly forbidden, of course—but that wasn't really his problem.

Suddenly, the sirens blared.

A sharp, violent shudder ran down his spine.

The sky above the village shattered like brittle glass, yielding to a suffocating, ink-black aura that blotted out the stars. Standing towering in the absolute center of the city, framed by the chaos of blaring sirens and crumbling stone, was an entity.

The figure was an imposing, almost ethereal nightmare. His silhouette cut a striking figure against the burning skyline—a muscular torso exposed beneath a dark cloak that snapped wildly in the rising gale, the twin Covenant symbols emblazoned on its back glowing with a muted, sinister light. Long, light-colored hair cascaded down his shoulders, sweeping forward to veil the left side of his face. Where his skin showed, it was a deep, dark tone traced with jagged, circuit-like tattoos that wound down his forearm to form the intricate shape of an open eye on the back of his hand, accompanied by a sharp line extending from his face down his torso and pale, star-like dots scattered across his limbs.

Two curling, majestic horns swept upward from his head, anchoring a presence that felt ancient and absolute. But most chilling of all were his eyes—sharp, almond-shaped, and burning with a vivid red iris. Within those irises sat a thin ring encircling the pupil, flanked by multiple concentric rings that seemed to spin slowly, locking onto the village below with cold, detached malice. Clad in a heavy furry belt anchored by thick metallic rings, striped waist-cloth, baggy trousers tucked into sharp, pointy black shoes, and spiked bands binding his wrists, he looked less like an intruder and more like a god descending to claim a debt.

Kairo's breath hitched in his throat. The raw, suffocating pressure radiating off the entity made his knees buckle against the windowsill.

"Imu..." Kairo choked out, the air leaving his lungs in a cold gasp.

Below, in the chaotic streets, the Lunarian defenders were already mobilizing, but the sheer weight of the intruder's presence turned the air itself into lead.

Tobirama's voice cut through the blaring sirens, laced with a rare, desperate edge. "AYAME! IT'S HIM! GET KAIRO OUT OF HERE!"

To understand how everything spiraled out of control so fast, we have to go back just a few minutes earlier.

In the medical facility, Shuri was strapped to an operation table, her body thrashing violently. Three medical doctors were working overtime, actively pumping Conqueror's Haki directly into her system to suppress the dark abyss and stabilize her condition.

Darkness still flared around her. Her body floated inches off the table, suspended by thick, tendril-like ropes of dark abyssal energy pouring directly from the seal on her chest. Her eyes weren't just glowing red—they were completely void of light, twin hollow sockets pouring black smoke into the sterile room air.

"Hold her down! Keep forcing the Haki through!"

The doctors pushed themselves to their limits. Her abyssal seal was ridiculously potent; it took three powerful Lunarians working simultaneously just to keep the dark energy from consuming her entirely. Shuri felt like total hell, her mind trapped in a haze while her body refused to obey her.

Finally, after minutes of intense struggle, the black tendrils snapped back into her chest.

She went completely still. Her breathing calmed.

The doctors exhaled deeply, finally allowing themselves to relax. nearby, the research team had just finished scanning her energy signature and processing the readings.

A short while later, both of Kairo's parents entered the facility to check on her progress.

The lead scientist immediately stepped forward to lay out their findings. "Her Covenant seal seems to be only one tier below the Five Elders themselves. However, the sheer amount of ancient energy laced into it suggests it's been repeatedly reinforced... as if she were engineered to be its perfect host."

Tobirama stood quietly, his eyes narrowed as he processed the information. He looked closely at the unconscious girl.

"It's her eyes," Tobirama said softly, the realization beginning to take root. "That bastard wants her eyes for himself."

Ayame frowned, confused. "Her eyes? What do her eyes have to do with any of this?"

Tobirama crossed his arms, his mind working through the historical records stored deep within their archives. "Queen Lily possessed those exact same eyes. They grant a rare, precise anatomical perception. Someone with those eyes could drive a blade directly through your brain, and you would somehow still survive. In this world, certain individuals are born with extreme, unteachable traits."

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. "Take Madam Shyarly, for instance. She was born with a hyper-specialized form of Observation Haki that allows her to look decades into the future. It's not something you can train or copy—it's a biological anomaly."

Ayame considered this, but something still bothered her. "If her eyes are really that crucial to him, how could she possibly escape? Imu wouldn't just let a priceless asset slip through his fingers."

Tobirama's gaze hardened. "Exactly. It makes no sense. The World Government's leadership is filled with incompetent fools—those old Gorosei have their brains in the dirt—but Imu isn't stupid. He wouldn't let a girl carrying a piece of his own power flee into the wild where we could easily decode the seal and destroy it."

The pieces began falling into place inside Tobirama's head, each realization colder than the last.

Why would Imu let her wander near their territory? Why would he weaken the seal just enough to let a prodigy like Kairo sense her pain and feel compelled to bring her straight through their impenetrable defenses?

It wasn't a escape. It was never an escape.

The seal wasn't meant to hold her spirit—it was designed to act as a dormant, localized transmitter that activated the moment it crossed the Red Line's ancient barrier fields. Kairo hadn't rescued a victim. He had unknowingly carried a homing beacon straight past their perimeter, bypassing thousands of years of concealment in a single act of mercy.

Tobirama's eyes widened in sheer horror as the sickening truth hit him.

"It was bait..." Tobirama gasped, his breath catching in his throat. "He wanted us to find her! He wanted us to bring her inside!"

He spun toward the emergency comms lever on the wall. "RING THE ALARM! She isn't just possessed—she's an anchor!"

Before his hand could even hit the switch, a cold, echoing voice vibrated through the very bedrock of the mountain, whispering inside every Lunarian's mind at once:

{Mu... found you.}

Outside, the sky went completely dark.

A/N....Dam, i have an inconsistent schedule....but, in my defense, i was stocking up on chapter for the hollow, cause i don't want to have a dropped story, and i was focusing on finishing the first arc on my novel, and since the first arc is done.

Will take a week break, to write out the second arc plot and so on, if shit continue at the rate they are now, second arc is very likely to end in chapter 120.

Anyway, enjoy this.

Question of the day, if you and your girlfriend were kidnap, and the kidnapper said for him to let you go, both of you must suck his dick, but, you have to atleast do 50% of the work?
