Chapter 189: Jiang Nannan's Feelings — If You Like Someone, Act on It
The faint, shallow breathing grew strong and steady. The tension in Ye Yunxi's brows eased completely, and even the gray streaks in her hair began to darken gradually before Jiang Nannan's eyes.
The dead, withered aura lingering around her seemed to melt away like winter frost meeting sunlight—replaced by a long-lost vitality.
The process lasted only a few minutes.
When the final trace of life energy fully merged with Ye Yunxi's body, her eyelids fluttered open.
"Mom… Mom, how do you feel?"
Jiang Nannan's voice trembled with excitement.
At the sound of her daughter's call, Ye Yunxi slowly opened her eyes.
Those once-dim and distant pupils now shone brightly, clear and full of life.
She blinked in confusion, then gradually realized how light and comfortable her body felt—as if every burden she'd carried for years had suddenly lifted away.
When she tried to move, she sat up with ease.
"Ah! Mom, careful!" Jiang Nannan rushed to support her.
"Nannan, what's going on…? Why do I feel so good all of a sudden?"
Ye Yunxi stretched slightly, her bones cracking softly. Her energy and complexion were visibly better.
Her illness had dulled her mind, so her memory was fuzzy. She barely remembered what had happened earlier. But all the discomfort—the dizziness, the weakness—had vanished! Every breath felt fresh and effortless, as though she had grown younger overnight.
She stood up and took a few steps, steady and strong.
Then she turned to look at Ye Chen, eyes wide in shock.
A miracle.
An absolute miracle.
Gratitude flooded her heart like a tidal wave.
She hurriedly approached Ye Chen, voice trembling. "Young man… thank you… thank you so much! You're my family's savior!"
"Auntie, please don't do that!"
Ye Chen quickly caught her before she could kneel.
"It was nothing," he said lightly. "Nannan-jie is my classmate. Helping her family is only right. But your foundation is still weak—take one pill from me every day for the next week, and you'll be fully recovered."
As he spoke, he smiled.
"Ye Chen, my mother's already healed. That medicine was so valuable—you should save it for yourself," Jiang Nannan said softly.
She had witnessed the miracle with her own eyes and knew the pill's worth rivaled the legendary Xuanming Pill. To use more seemed too extravagant—repaying such a debt was impossible.
If she couldn't ever repay him… well, she thought nervously, perhaps she could only do so personally—but would Ye Chen even want that?
"Yes, that medicine must've cost you a fortune. Don't waste it," Ye Yunxi added, still astonished but deeply grateful.
She knew full well that such recovery couldn't come without great cost. It was already a favor she could never repay.
Ye Chen smiled patiently. "Auntie, please don't worry. That medicine isn't a burden for me. Your body still needs consistent nourishment to fully stabilize. Focus on resting and healing. I'll stop by each day to check on you."
"T-then how could I possibly impose like this…"
Blushing slightly, Ye Yunxi gave in to his insistence and nodded reluctantly.
Ye Chen looked at her quietly for a moment, realizing how much she resembled her daughter.
In truth, Ye Yunxi wasn't even that old—barely past her thirties. Once fully recovered, she'd be a remarkably beautiful woman, much like Nannan herself.
"Nannan-jie, your mother needs rest. I'll head back for today and return tomorrow with more medicine," Ye Chen said finally.
It wasn't that he was rushing to leave the town—there were simply matters he needed to verify.
"So soon? Why not stay for dinner? Or even overnight—traveling back and forth will be such trouble," Jiang Nannan said quickly, gripping his sleeve.
"She's right, stay for a meal. This house is simple, but we can still thank you properly," Ye Yunxi added warmly.
Ye Chen smiled and shook his head. "No need, really. Auntie, please get some rest. I'll come again tomorrow. Nannan-jie, take care of her."
Patting Nannan's shoulder, he turned and stepped outside. His figure rose into the sky moments later, the flying device carrying him swiftly away.
Jiang Nannan stood in the doorway, watching as he vanished into the clouds. A strange emptiness tugged at her chest.
The evening breeze stirred her hair gently, but inside, her heart fluttered restlessly.
She turned back inside.
Her mother sat propped against her pillow, eyes bright and clear with renewed spirit. She looked at her daughter's dazed expression and smiled knowingly.
"Nannan," she said softly. "That boy, Ye Chen—he seems to care for you quite a lot."
"M-Mom! What are you talking about!" Nannan's face flushed crimson as she hurried to straighten her mother's blankets, trying to hide her embarrassment.
Her mother chuckled and took her daughter's hand—warm for the first time in years.
Looking into her beautiful daughter's face, she stroked her cheek lovingly. "I'm old, but not blind. The way he looks at you isn't the same as how he looks at others. He's kind, capable, and clearly fond of you."
"Mom…" Jiang Nannan ducked her head, her blush deepening, trying and failing to free her hand from her mother's gentle grasp.
Ye Yunxi's tone softened. "Happiness doesn't wait around, my dear. If someone truly cares for you, don't hesitate. Love is something you must reach for yourself."
"I… but I…" Nannan's voice shrank to a whisper as her pulse pounded wildly.
She couldn't deny it—she liked Ye Chen. His smile, his calm, the gentle way he spoke—it all lingered in her mind.
Yet doubts clouded her heart. Ye Chen was extraordinary—his talent, his strength, his background—they were all so far above her own. Did she really deserve him?
"Silly girl," Ye Yunxi said with a smile, brushing her daughter's hair gently. "When he looks at you, there's light in his eyes. I can see it. Fate doesn't wait, Nannan. Seize it before it slips away."
"R-really?" Nannan's eyes brightened slightly. Each time she faced Ye Chen, she became nervous—so nervous she rarely met his gaze at all.
"Of course, sweetheart. Take it from me," Ye Yunxi laughed softly. "When a woman loves, she should be brave. Chasing a man is like pulling silk—it's easier than you think. All you need to do is take that first step."
"I… I understand, Mom… I'll go make dinner now."
Blushing furiously, Jiang Nannan fled toward the kitchen, her heart beating fast and light.
