Left alone in the darkness I notice that the garish stones I assumed were supposed to be faux diamonds are giving off just the faintest of light. It piques my interest for a moment but as time stretches even, they lose their interestingness.
I can't believe my day started with me rushing home for an anniversary that obviously meant more to me than Anna and now I am locked in a human shaped cage waiting to be... I don't know what I am waiting for exactly. I assume I am to be killed as they took no precautions to hide their faces, but this seems like a rather large operation to murder someone.
I sigh and lean my head back against the cage wall behind me lightly tugging at the cuffs on my wrists... what a day.
-------------------------------------------------------
The room door creaks and I can just make out a figure hovering in the door frame dimly backlit by the light filtering down the hallway outside.
"Hurry up kid and just grab it," comes from somewhere outside muffled by the walls.
"Yes Serge!" Comes from the figure at the door and he slowly creeps up to the door of my cage, "Now don't cause me any trouble." It falls from his lips more as a plea than an order.
I tense waiting to strike as he reaches for the lock. Painfully slowly I hear the padlock disengage. I wait impatiently for him to undo the cage latch braced ready to kick out and fight my way free as soon as the cage door is loose. Before that happens though another figure steps into the room.
"Wait, kid," a deep voice says from the doorway
"huh?" the first figure questions from his spot in front of my cage.
"Never underestimate a Profane, kid. Don't let the others rush you neither. Always have backup when opening a cage." I hear his words, and I assume he's referring to me as a profane, but I don't understand why.
"Oh. Thanks Serge." The one at the door replies. "Am I good to open it now that you are here then?"
"Yeah kid" the second voice, Serge apparently, says stepping closer so that if I were to attack the kid opening the cage he would be ready to grab me.
I force my body to relax recognizing I won't be able to fight off both of these men and escape before more get called from elsewhere in the house. I was semi confident when it was just the one especially since he seems less confident himself but two is too great a risk.
The cage door is pulled open by the kid, and he reaches in and latches onto my ankle. I instinctively kick to try and shake him off.
"Hey!" he cries out, "Stop that!" he gives a little yelp as my struggles against his hand slam it into the cage wall.
"STOP!" The Serge's voice commands slamming a rod of some kind into the cage the noise stuns me a moment and causes the ringing to resume full force in my head.
"Okay kid try again now," I vaguely hear over the bells slamming into my brain.
My ankles are grasped once more but this time I barely even react unable to catch my bearings quite yet. I am dragged out of the cage, chains are attached to the cuffs on my wrists, and I am yanked to my feet. I stumble struggling to stay upright when I feel the rod previously used to ring the cage thread through my elbows and behind my back making it so I cannot move my arms at all.
With a light tug on my chains by the kid and a stronger push to the back from Serge and my stumbling is directed towards the doorway.
We make our way out the room, down the hallway, and into a perplexingly normal living room. The brightness of the living room blinds me for a moment but then as I get my first real glimpse of the men surrounding me my heart drops. Every single one of them wears bloodstained clothes. None of them even seem to notice... except... I catch a glimpse of the kid holding my chains and he seems to be shifting away attempting not to see the blood covering all those around us. It could have been my imagination though. The next instance he gives a sharp tug on my chains, and I am being pulled out of the living room towards a door in the kitchen. I hear the men behind us throw curses seemingly aimed at me again calling me "profane".
The kid pulls me through the door on the far side of the kitchen and down a flight of stairs into an empty but brightly lit basement. It's small more root cellar that is just under the kitchen than full basement I think until the kid pulls me around the corner of the stairs and I see another door before us. The kid hesitates once more before this door and this time Serge seems to take pity on him,
"Go on back upstairs and get cleaned up Kid," Serge orders with no give to his voice although I am sure this is him doing a kindness, "give me the chain and I can handle the rest."
The kid nods hurriedly and hands Serge the chain connected to my cuffs before rushing back upstairs. Serge gives a sigh and pushes me forward now holding both my chains and the rod he wedged behind my back. Stopping before the door Serge grabs my arm and speaks directly to me for the first time,
"If you want a chance to survive don't fight me when I remove this rod," Serge's voice is low and menacing
I nod as though I understand although truthfully now I have even more questions. Serge pulls the rod out from my arms and leans it against the wall beside the door.
"Brace yourself, I don't want to have to clean up puke today," Serge announces and with that reaches for the door.
