Nicholas stood behind the one-way glass, his arms crossed, watching the man sitting inside the interrogation room. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead, casting a sterile glow across the small space. The man was a lawyer, or so he claimed—though his behavior suggested otherwise. He sat on the other side of the glass with an almost irritating amount of confidence, leaning back in his chair like he was sitting in an ordinary office rather than being questioned by Novaterra's security forces.
Nicholas wasn't alone. Several other officers and controllers stood beside him, their eyes fixed on the scene unfolding beyond the glass. They could see and hear everything happening inside the room—every word, every gesture, every flicker of emotion. The man couldn't see them. From his side, the glass looked like an ordinary blank wall, offering no hint of the audience watching his every move.
