Chapter 440 - Chapter 440: Shadow of the Void

Standing to the side, Ethan watched Kaleb's face shift between different shades and didn't even need to ask to know that the group was probably discussing something privately.

But he didn't care.

At most, Harriet was persuading Kaleb not to provoke him.

Kaleb was obviously the type with high combat strength but little brains.

People like that were actually easier to deal with.

At least everything was written on their face.

After exchanging messages for a while, Kaleb seemed to have given in. He shot Ethan a dark look but didn't say anything else.

Instead, Harriet forced a professional smile onto her face and said, "Sorry about that. We were discussing how to deal with this temple, so we wasted some time."

"It's fine," Ethan didn't care, "So did you come up with anything?"

"I really don't have any good solution for this kind of illusion," Harriet didn't hide anything and said directly, "Right now, the only thing we can do is rely on Charlie and have him continue making predictions to see if he can find a way out."

"But this place seems able to interfere with predictions," Ethan said.

"Lord Ethan, you can see it, right?", Harriet asked, "Earlier, you said you saw a strand of black stuff enter Charlie's crystal ball. That's what affected the crystal ball's prediction."

"I'm thinking... maybe it's because Charlie's prediction is actually accurate that something in this place deliberately changed the result."

"If we can stop whatever is invading the crystal ball, we might be able to break out of this situation."

"That makes sense."

Ethan also felt that her reasoning was sound.

Harriet immediately had Charlie make another prediction, while Ethan stood nearby and watched for the black smoke that could appear at any moment.

Sure enough.

As soon as Charlie started predicting again, Ethan saw a strand of black smoke, as thin as a thread, rushing toward the crystal ball.

Smoke naturally couldn't be attacked with force.

Even if it was dispersed, it could gather again.

So Ethan simply opened a spatial gate directly in its path.

However... The moment Ethan opened the spatial gate, the strand of black smoke actually changed direction?

'What the hell?'

'Since when did a strand of smoke have a mind of its own?'

Ethan was stunned.

But he was faster than the smoke. In an instant, he opened four spatial gates.

They blocked all four directions around the smoke.

But who could have expected that the smoke would suddenly turn upward and try to float into the air to escape the encirclement of the spatial gates?

However... Ethan had already guessed that it would try to run.

So the instant it rose upward, another spatial gate suddenly appeared above it.

The smoke couldn't stop in time and was immediately swallowed by the spatial gate.

[Shadow of the Void (Remnant) +1]

When Ethan heard the system notification, he froze for a moment.

Especially the last two words...

'Remnant!'

'Could it be...'

'Another lost divine statue?'

Ethan quickly opened his backpack and checked the description of the Shadow of the Void.

[Shadow of the Void (Remnant): A special lost divine statue. It is said that this divine statue has no form and no body. It can also transform into all things. It is one of the strangest divine statues.]

[PS: Unfortunately, what you obtained is only a strand of the Shadow of the Void. If you can gather the complete Shadow of the Void, you will become the strongest Shadow Manipulator.]

'Shadow Manipulator. That class sounds interesting.'

Unfortunately, this thing had no form and no substance, so Ethan had no way of knowing what percentage of the Shadow of the Void he had collected.

Unlike the Statue of Foresight, he could at least tell how much was left before completing it.

'It seems...'

'Collecting the complete Shadow of the Void would not be easy.'

"So... this is spatial magic?"

Although Kaleb couldn't see the black smoke, he could see the several spatial gates Ethan had opened.

Those strange black holes had appeared in midair without warning.

Then he remembered, the sword in Harriet's hand earlier had cut trees more easily than slicing cucumbers, yet the moment it entered one of those black holes, only the hilt remained.

That showed just how powerful those black holes were.

"Yeah, that's why I said not to provoke him," Harriet took a deep breath and said helplessly, "If I'd known from the start that he was a spatial mage, I wouldn't have dared challenge him."

"With how fast he opened those spatial gates just now, taking the heads of the three of us would probably be effortless."

"I think he's only cooperating with us because he wants to clear this place."

"After we clear it..."

"What will happen?", Kaleb's face had gone pale as well, "Will he kill us?"

"Hard to say," Harriet frowned slightly, "Let's just hope he's only after money. Otherwise, all of us could be in danger."

"Isn't there any other way?"

"There is," Harriet seemed to think of something, but she quickly shook her head, "Forget it. It's too dangerous. As soon as we leave this temple, we'll give up everything here and leave immediately. That's our only way to stay alive."

"Do we really have to do that?"

A trace of unwillingness flashed through Kaleb's eyes.

But Harriet, as the team leader, nodded seriously, "It's the only path to survival!"

"I saw it!"

Just as Kaleb was about to argue, Charlie suddenly looked at the crystal ball in his hands with excitement and said, "Sister Harriet! Brother Kaleb! I found the key to breaking this situation!"

"What is it?"

The two of them asked at the same time.

But after the excitement faded, Charlie's expression suddenly changed, "The crystal ball predicted that we need to find the person who possesses the Shadow of the Void."
