Chapter 142 - Fallen Genesis

The Creator's hand gently touched the center of Cain's chest.

There was no blinding flash. No explosive surge of power.

It felt like stepping into a warm, quiet room after freezing in the snow. A

soft, golden-white light seeped into Cain's chest, flowing directly into the

hollow, agonizing gap in his core.

Fallen Genesis.

It was not a spell. It was a one-time restoration of existence.

The light wrapped around his deteriorating soul, sewing the frayed edges of his

identity back together. The micro-fissures in his veins closed. The fractured

rib in his chest fused perfectly. The agonizing, half-second lag that had

plagued his mana circulation for weeks was instantly erased.

The Black Veil did not disappear. The Creator did not remove it. But the dark,

heavy reservoir was pushed deep down to the base of his spine, forced into a

state of absolute, dormant hibernation. The corruption was contained.

Cain took a deep, shuddering breath.

The air filled his lungs easily. The pain was gone.

He slowly pushed himself up from the dirt, sitting back on his heels. He looked

at his hands. They were steady. The violent tremors of the Overload state had

vanished.

"Your existence is stabilized," the Creator said, rising gracefully to their

feet. "But the fragment remains. It is a part of your foundation now. You are

the Second Unmarked."

Cain looked up at the timeless being. "Why didn't you remove it?"

"Because it is yours," the Creator replied simply. "To remove it would be to

remove the evolution you earned through your own survival. I do not steal from

those who have already paid the price."

The Creator turned their gaze slightly, looking at the empty space beside Cain's

head.

"They bound you with a system," the Creator noted, their voice carrying a faint,

almost imperceptible warmth. "A rigid, administrative tool designed to govern

your growth. When you stepped outside their law, the tool broke."

The Creator reached out and tapped the empty air.

A sudden, sharp chime echoed in Cain's ears.

A translucent blue window flickered into existence. But it wasn't the cold,

sterile interface he remembered. The edges of the window were smooth, the text

rendering with a strange, fluid crispness.

"I have unbound it," the Creator said. "It will no longer govern you. It will

accompany you. A companion for the life you fought to keep."

Cain stared at the blue window. It hovered quietly, waiting.

The Creator folded their hands together, their expression growing solemn once

more.

"Before I return you to your tethers," the Creator said, "I offer you a choice."

Cain shifted his attention back to the ancient being.

"The memories of the White Domain. The terror of the Black Veil. The weight of

the gods' judgment," the Creator listed quietly. "They are heavy burdens for a

mortal mind. If you wish, I can take them from you. You can wake up in your bed,

whole and unburdened, believing this was all a distant nightmare."

The Creator paused.

"Do you wish to retain your memories?"

Cain didn't need to think about it.

Han Jae-Won had never run from his scars. A soldier's trauma was his map. If he

forgot the horror of the Black Veil, he would forget how dangerous it was. If he

forgot the tragedy of Elios, he would forget the cost of isolation. If he forgot

the pain, he would forget why he needed to protect Aera, Liora, and Rei.

Ignorance wasn't peace. It was a vulnerability.

"I keep them," Cain said. His voice was steady, absolute, and devoid of

hesitation.

The Creator looked at him. For a brief, fleeting moment, a smile touched the

ancient being's face. It was a look of profound, quiet respect.

"You carry it well, Second Unmarked," the Creator said softly.

The world around Cain began to blur. The ruined wasteland, the floating debris,

the timeless figure of the Creator—it all dissolved into a soft, warm light.

"Return to them."
