Layla continued talking, "Ugh, fuck. That's how my mom was talking. Fuck, I feel disgusting talking like that. It feels like that information has been seared into my mind. I can't get it out."
I was in disbelief, could someone's family really become so cult like? I have only seen things like this happen in movies or video games.
There was a lot on my mind but I didn't hesitate to say, "Wow, ok, that is crazy. Your family joined a cult. Like, putting blood on your forehead? And I'm guessing sacrificing farm animals? Yeah, that's nuts."
"I don't know what to do, or even what I can do? Can I do anything at all? They are in deep, and fully brainwashed. I don't think there is anything I can do. Maybe call the police?"
"What are the police going to do? Arrest them for being creepy?"
"No, I don't know, maybe animal cruelty?"
"I mean butchers are a thing, and if even just one person has a butcher's license, then they can't really do anything."
"Sigh. Yeah."
We laid there in silence for a while until I made a decision.
I started to get up and said, "Hey, let me go make a call. Or it's late, so maybe a message would be better."
"Who are you calling?"
"I'm just calling to cancel my flight tomorrow."
"What!? No! You have spent way too much money on that. You have to go."
"I can't leave you here, especially after all of this happened."
"You can, and you will. You chartered a private plane, which is crazy expensive. I am fine. I was freaked out for a moment there, I admit. But, your mom is here and I have friends I can go to if I need help. So, believe me, you don't need to stay."
"Ok. If you are sure you won't need me, I'll go."
"I'll be fine, I promise."
"Ok. I'll believe you. But, I should get some sleep as the flight leaves in a few hours."
"Yeah, you're right."
…
Very early the next morning we were up and moving around at 4:00, my flight was at 5:00.
I had chartered a private flight just for me from my own home town all the way to Yamato. It was going to be around a 17 hour flight depending on air currents.
Which made me think about getting my own plane. Not that I would know the first thing about what to look for in a plane.
Layla wanted to drive me to the airport, so she was up with me.
We packed everything I was going to bring into the Cancry and we set off.
The airport wasn't that far away, plus with the private entrance for private flights I was through security and boarding the plane 10 minutes early.
Before boarding Layla and I had to say our goodbyes.
Layla said, "Well I guess this is it."
"Yep. I'll be back in maybe a week or two. By then you will have wished I stayed there longer."
"No I won't."
"Maybe not, but I'll be back before you know it."
"Uh-huh."
We hugged then parted ways as I boarded the plane.
The plane I booked is nice and very reliable. It will have 4 pilots working in shifts to get us there in one flight.
I talked with all of the pilots and crew. I told them that I was an easy going guy so they could take it easy, I just want to get there in one piece. If they want to relax in the main cabin, cool. If they want to stay in their own area, that's fine too.
I just want my food to be good and flight to be smooth.
They all seemed relieved by that as tensions got left behind in the terminal and we got taxied out to the runway.
We rolled out to the end of the runway with the turbines warming up along the way.
As we were given clearance to take off the turbines wined fully to life and then all at once they let go of the brakes. We launched forward going faster and faster until, like a feather, we delicately lifted off of the ground.
I looked out the window at the quickly retreating ground, getting farther and farther away.
Once we reached cruising altitude, we were all allowed to get up and move around. Now we have a large amount of time to kill.
One of the pilots came out and started talking with me. About things we liked and disliked. He was the typical guy type.He liked sports and hanging out drinking beer. The only thing we really had in common was a fondness for home renovations.
So, I turned on the TV in the main cabin and we started watching some home renovation shows. We gave our own critiques and said what we liked. As time passed other crew members came out to watch and join in the fun.
We basically had a watch party going on, with snacks, food, and drinks going around. Obviously alcohol was not drunk by anybody, as the crew was working, or would be working later.
Things wound down for a time as some people had to nap a little before their shift.
While things were quiet, those left with me asked what I did. I simply said that I was in tech manufacturing.
That got us talking about video games. For those currently present, they really liked video games.
We started talking about what video games we would create if we could.
They had some interesting ideas, but most were more like new iterations of games they already played. Just how they thought the game could be better.
Time passed surprisingly quickly as the plane flew, I never really felt tired as I had a revolving door of people to talk to. All of them were very social and nice. I wonder if that is a job requirement?
My time on the plane was coming to an end as the announcement was made for our descent.
