Chapter 58 - Stocks and News

I had been watching the volatile stock market slowly rise over the past week.

The stocks that were originally $2 had risen to $10 and over the course of the day it had risen to $20.

Clearly other people or institutions also had insider knowledge that the stocks were going to rise further tomorrow.

Since the stocks had started at $10, ended at $20, and I bought stocks over the course of the day. Then the average amount I spent per stock is $15.

To do the calculations in the future $30,557,881.51 became 2,037,192 stocks. Now however much the stock price rises I only have to multiply the price by this number.

I can't forget the $1.51 that is remaining.

I sat back and watched the computers continue to run tests and calculations until, finally, they gained enough experience to upgrade.

With the upgrade the computers advanced to the very peak of supercomputing power any further and they would have entered a new threshold.

Which means I now have the 6 best supercomputers in the world.

However I know that quantum computers exist. They are the next evolution of computing after all.

The next thing to be upgraded are the storage devices. Each going from 2,800 TB to 28,000 TB for a grand total of 952,000 TB or 952 PB.

I have so much extra storage I will probably move all of the stock data and stock AI code to a few storage drives so that way I can make use of the other drives for other things.

But that will wait until after tomorrow.

I also upgraded the cables, satellites, solar panels, and AR glasses.

They all got upgrades of their basic functions.

As the day was coming to a close I got a call from Layla.

I answered my phone, "Hello?"

"Hey, how is it going?"

"It's going good. What's up?"

"Well… I just wanted to tell you that I finished taking the Safety Inspection Course."

"What? Already?"

"Yeah. Honestly it wasn't hard. They have the course every week at any local community college. I saw that they had one today and signed up."

"It's a little scary how easy it is to get certified for safety inspections."

"Well, you still have to pass the test, but yeah I understand where you are coming from. I don't know about the others, but the test was a breeze for me."

"So you passed?"

"Of course I did. Gosh, how low of an opinion do you have of me?"

"It is definitely high, but I don't like having expectations for anyone. I don't want to pressure anyone after all."

"That's nice. But, do you want to know something that pissed me off today though?"

"Oh, man. Sure, go ahead."

"When I completed the test, which was done on the computer, so, I knew I passed right away. Anyway, the teacher handed out brochures for companies that would be hiring and even training new hires."

"Yeah, but isn't that a good thing for the people that passed?"

"Yeah, well it's not about that. The training was hiring for a $40,000 a year salary. Starting. The full position was $85,000 a year."

"That's better than I expected."

"Yeah. But, I have been working at WorstBuy for years just to try and get my foot in the door. And yet this option has existed the entire time! Like, why did no one tell me this was an option? I could have saved so much time."

"Oh, yeah that does suck."

"Yeah I had been working barely above minimum wage for years, when I could have been making much more. I even did the math. I started working there at 18 and I'm now 23, so 5 years. Full time for a year is 2,080 hours for 5 years is 10,400 hours at $8 an hour is $83,200.

My 5 years is not even worth 1 singular year of nontraining. Training only lasts for 1 year. So, if I had done this straight out of high school I would have made $380,000. More than enough to be on my way to the degree I want. Not to mention that they often offer training plans in these companies to go to college for higher degrees."

"I hear you, no one ever tells you about this niche side of the world. Because how are you supposed to know this without looking for this specifically?"

"Exactly, I'm so frustrated."

"Well, do you have time tomorrow?"

"Ha, do I? Haha, when I found out how much I could have been making, the first person I called was my manager to cuss him out and quit. He really didn't deserve that, but I felt like he was the person to blame, even though I know it was my own fault."

"Since you have time, the scissor lift will be getting delivered tomorrow."

"Really? Sweet. Can I throw my car on it first and have a look at it?"

"I wouldn't have it any other way. Just be careful not to get hurt or damage your car."

"Of course."

"I will call my neighbor in a second to ask him if he can do the work that is left."

"What work is left to do?"

"Putting in a bathroom and building you, your massive workbenches however you like."

"Sweet. But you won't be doing it yourself?"

"I don't mess with plumbing. I learned my lesson early. But I will not be able to go tomorrow because work is going to be crazy and very important."

"Oh? You won't be there?"

"No, that's why I was asking if you could be there to let them in."

"Thas what you were asking, now I'm on the same page. But how will I get in?"

"If you swing by, I will give you your keys."

"Ok, that sounds good."

"Alright, I need to make this call before it gets too late."

"Ok, good bye."

"Good bye."

Once we hung up I called my neighbor and asked if he could do the work. He said that since I was a friend he would do it tomorrow.

My neighbor has a business with another neighbor building small sheds for people, so they have an open schedule.
