Chapter 498 - Irreplaceable

When Zhang Han returned to school, he was greeted with extraordinary courtesy from his teammates. The concern on the faces of several of his classmates was clearly visible when they saw him.

"How is it?"

Asou was the first to ask. Kuramochi ran directly to Zhang Han and took his finger to examine it. Zhang Han felt a chill and quickly pulled his hand out of Kuramochi's grip. Miyuki and Shirazu also gathered around at this moment.

Kawakami was a bit far away, but his eyes never left Zhang Han. Zhang Han could tell that there were no other emotions in Kawakami's eyes, only concern.

This was the first time he had experienced such a feeling. Although his position in the baseball team was already very stable and his popularity was good, he really didn't expect these guys to be so concerned about his condition.

"Don't worry, the doctor examined me for a long time and said I'm stronger than an ox."

Hearing Zhang Han's answer, all his teammates let out a huge sigh of relief. Especially Miyuki, who patted Zhang Han's shoulder heavily several times.

Zhang Han didn't know how worried they were. When they heard that the coach and assistant director had specifically taken Zhang Han to see a doctor, their hearts had been in their throats.

With Chris's past experience as a precedent, the teammates of Seido High School Baseball Team all had a psychological shadow regarding a teammate getting injured. Once bitten by a snake, one fears a well rope for ten years. Many of them had imagined what would happen if Zhang Han had to withdraw from the baseball team at this time and couldn't participate in the upcoming Summer Tournament.

To be honest, the outcome would probably not be good.

Now, Zhang Han was not only their friend and an important teammate, but also one of the most indispensable people on this team. Once Zhang Han was gone, Seido High School Baseball Team would be greatly affected, both in offense and defense.

With less than three months remaining until the Summer Tournament, could Seido cope with such an accident? Could they really compete with Inashiro Industrial and Ichidai Third High School?

The answer was probably no. They couldn't do it.

"Hey, say what you want to say. Don't get physical, I'm a patient."

Zhang Han said with a smile, dodging Miyuki's hand that was trying to pat him. As he spoke, he deliberately raised his finger to enhance his persuasiveness. However, the bandage on his index finger had already been removed, leaving only a faint red mark on the pad of his finger, making it impossible to see the original injury.

Only then did his teammates truly relax. At least to them, Zhang Han should really be fine.

"Don't get it wet for the next two days. I'll catch your pitching in a couple of days."

"Catching pitches is fine, but the doctor said I should rest for a week. After all, if it's not fully healed, there's still a risk of infection."

Zhang Han brought bad news. This meant that in the upcoming semifinals and finals, unless a very critical situation arose, he would not be standing on the pitcher's mound. Although his teammates felt disappointed, this was within their expectations. It was already serious enough to go to the hospital, and resting for only a week could be said to be the best outcome. They didn't dare to have any other hopes.

After dealing with his teammates and waiting for everyone to leave, the smile on Zhang Han's face faded, and he walked back to his dormitory alone.

At the dormitory door, he saw a group of uninvited guests.

Yuuki Tetsuya, Isashiki Jun, Masuko Toru, Koichiro Tanba, Kominato Ryosuke, Chris. All the third-year seniors who were core players of the baseball team had come, not a single one missing.

"Seniors, what brings you to my humble abode? It's truly an honor..."

Zhang Han put his smile back on, ready to gloss over the topic. But the seniors were clearly not so easy to fool.

"What was the result?"

"Very good! The doctor said I'm stronger than an ox, you know?"

Zhang Han was already used to saying the exact same words. It had to be said that human adaptability was truly very strong.

Chris, who was hiding behind the others, pushed through the crowd and came to the front.

"As your senior, I have a piece of advice."

"Senior, please tell me..."

"The most important value of a core player is to be able to stay on the field. Never overexert yourself. As long as you ultimately remain on the field, then everything is possible. Conversely, if you can't play, then everything is over. No matter how unwilling you are, it's useless..."

Chris had personal experience with this.

Zhang Han's expression also became serious. He couldn't answer Chris's question as easily as he answered the others.

"It's really nothing! This is the doctor's conclusion, and it's my own opinion. Don't worry, senior, I know what I'm doing."

Although Zhang Han usually seemed easygoing, he was very stubborn deep down. Once he set his mind on something, it was difficult for others to sway him, no matter what they said.

"As long as you know what you're doing. The baseball team needs you now!"

Captain Yuuki's words were always so straightforward. Zhang Han was very moved in his heart. To be needed by others, was that not a kind of happiness?

"Thank you, seniors. I will continue to work hard."

"How long?"

Chris said something out of the blue. His voice wasn't loud, but it immediately pierced into Zhang Han's ears. So much so that Zhang Han's brain didn't even have time to react, and he blurted out instinctively.

"Two weeks!"

This was the doctor's true recommendation. The doctor mentioned many things, but the most important recommendation was this one. Although there were not many visible scars on Zhang Han's finger, the newly grown skin from such a wound was very tender.

If he continued to practice high-speed pitches, the old injury was very likely to recur. It would be best to rest for one to two weeks. The doctor recommended two weeks.

"You brat, were you trying to hide this information just now? Don't push yourself, or you'll be the one regretting it in the end."

Isashiki Jun said indignantly.

Zhang Han, on the other hand, was a bit dumbfounded. He truly never dreamed that Chris would trick him into revealing information, and that he would get it out so easily.

This senior, he wasn't in intelligence work before, was he? This talent, it was simply God-given.

"Senior, you are the best!"

Zhang Han looked at Chris with admiration and voluntarily gave a thumbs up.

"Get some good rest! Don't worry about the game, we've got this. We will definitely get you into the Kanto Tournament."

Kanto Tournament.

For Seido High School Baseball Team, the remaining semifinals and finals only left this one goal to strive for. As for whether they needed to fight to the death with the other team after reaching the finals, for Seido, that was a given.

Although they didn't care about winning the Tokyo Spring Tournament, as a powerhouse of West Tokyo and one of the top powerhouses in the country, they greatly valued the baseball team's reputation.

So whether it was the semifinals that determined the Kanto Tournament spot, or the finals that determined the Spring Tournament champion, they would not let go. They would win it.
