"Help!!!"
The scream became their cue.
Time is running out.
They had no time to think. They need to hide or something move as long as they are not in the open.
The group move, they dashed into a nearby building, desperate for cover.
"Cursed, it's locked" Chloe gives one last kick to the door, yet the door remain still.
"Over there" Stella pointed towards a small cafe. Its windows has been shattered and the jagged window was stained with streaks of blood.
Bang!!
A gunshot echoed. Followed by burst of fire.
'The other group must've engage with the monster, is it a millitary?' Rin's mind raced.
Then came the sound of falling concrete with a tremor far more violent than before. The dust rose up just around the corner block.
Click.
Rin jumped through the window, her sneakers step on the broken glass making a sharp noise.
She readied her weapon, her left arm holding a steel pipe while her right arm holding a gun. Her eyes swept the room looking for any danger, the walls offered protection againts the monster outside. That's the original thought, yet after hearing what the monster can do. The temporary shelter doesn't provide a slightest protection, instead this place might be their grave if they ever get found out. the darkness, mixed with the stench of mold and decay, made it anything but comforting.
"Clear" Rin whispered.
Gina jumped in first, followed by Stella then Chloe.
"That was stressful" Gina muttered.
"Do you think the zombies has evolve?" Chloe propose the question.
Silence fell over the group
Just a week ago they only fight zombie that can only walk, then a few days ago they meet a zombie that can run, and now a mutant?
'sigh' a collective sigh escape them
"Well," Rin said, breaking the tension, "as long I don't meet any witch. I win" she spoke with confidence.
"I bet you will poke it, then die in the stupidest way possible" Gina countered
"It's human nature to poke a bee nest" Rin smirked, puffing out her chest, while the other just rolled their eyes.
The tension eased slightly, despite the chaos on the outside, for a brief moment they can still laugh.
"Watch out" Rin called, a silhouette rose behind Gina, but Rin was faster. She hurled her iron pipe in a straight arc.
Tung!
The Heavy metal collided with a skull creating a ringing sound.
And from the commotion more and more silhouette rose up from the darkness.
Just like that, the sounds of commotion called zombie then zombie called another zombies and the more zombie clustered the more louder they become, amplifying their call range farther.
Now there are 4 zombies in the room with 2 stumbling downstair. Despite the group have an extent of understanding and experience in fighting zombie. Being outnumbered was never good.
Gina moved first, her cleaver whistling through the air at the fallen zombie.
Crunch!
Her cleaver hit split the zombie skull, spilling red matter across the floor.
Her eyes darted around, checking her friend. Chloe who beating zombie with baseball bat while stella hold a flag pole in kendo stance treating it as wooden sword, meanwhile Rin, now weaponless hurled a chair before trying to killed it with her knife.
The other two zombie crash downstair, their flayed limb and lack of motor control making a proper descent impossible.
Gina swiftly took out the zombies.
The group finally finish dealing with the zombie in the house. With Rin finally split the zombie vertebrate with her knife.
"How annoying" Rin hissed, her face is dirty from blood splatter.
"What kind of idiot throw their weapon away" Chloe teased
"Not me" Rin crossed her arm looking away.
It's a short fight, but enough to left them winded. They want took their breather but the tremor and gunshot is coming closer.
They crept towards the window.
And then they saw it.
An oversized bloody boar, a three story engine of destruction that moved at an incredible speed. Each step it took leaves a crater and on it's tusk has already a dead body impaled on it.
The girls watches from the shadow as the boar running closer towards the other group. A desperate mix of soldiers and civilians.
From 11 to 9 then 8. They watch as the other group number dwindling. A civilians that stumbled or being pushed before stomped into a paste and a soldier that got impaled from fighting back.
They need to do something or should they?
A mixed feeling brew in them, to help the other or to self preserve, no one know they were there and it's not like anyone can expected a group of girls fighting three story tall boar with a fur that seemed to deflect bullet.
"Run we will hold it here"
Two men shout as they broke out from the group, they stood on their ground firing at the mountain of flesh trying to buy even a measly bit of time.
The boar didn't flinch as it seems to be unaffected by the bullet, it didn't even slow down, the boar charge like a train pushing car and debris to the side, locking at the two soldier that receive it's wrath.
At the very last second, the men dove to the side landing on the side walk.
The boar locked onto its target, its eye keeps tracking one of the soldier as it passes by, the boar tried to pivot, the massive hooves scraping against the asphalt in attempt to brake, the massive body slipped as it tries to stop fighting against its own momentum but the giant body slipped and tumbled.
The men didn't waste a second. They didn't get closer nor run away as they fire from afar.
But as if it was a cruel joke their bullet barely did anything. Even on the creature softer underbelly exposed as it scrambled to its feet, the bullet did nothing. Bullet ricocheting off the hide as if they were hitting a reinforced steel. Not a single spot did the bullet manage to bite.
Yet, as long as the boar didn't chase the other group, the two men manage to accomplish their goal.
They hid in alleyway, popping out each time the boar focus on one of them. it was as if the boar playing whack-a-mole. The boar ram into the alleyway but's the massive body was stopped by the building. Its massive head snapping left and right watching the two men took turn popping out from the shadow.
For a moment, it worked. The beast seemed frustrated, confused by the two small ant that tickling it's hide.
But then, the game change, the creature stopped. It began to quiver, shaking it's body.
A low hummed vibration can be heard as the creature quiver, before then. Debris float on the air.
A projectile that seems to shredding the atmosphere, A massive projectile probably as big as Rin flew over her head, pulverizing everything it touch, dust and debris flies everywhere, as the massive projectile rained down indiscriminately, shredding every corner of the street. It launched it's fur, no it's quill using it as a projectile crushing stone and flesh alike
They pressed themself into the shadow hiding behind a thin wall, the same wall that they thought could give them protection or give them some times to escape, now barely survive the quill blast.
Then came the silence.
Pulverized stone and dust rained down their head as the world outside turned into a ruin.
The boar stood in silence menacingly, it scanned the street now a ruin, looking for any challenger. Once it felt like it can't find anything, it turn its massive bulk, retreating with a slow, earth shaking tremors.
Dust covers them as they are too scared to move, and with each tremor from every step, they can only pray not to get found out.
No one knows their shake came from the tremor of the earth or the terror that they just experience.
