Chapter 81 Explanations and Labels
Luminous pushed another piece of fruit past his lips before he could fully finish the first. Varion chewed, then reached over and took a small piece of meat from the same plate, holding it up to her mouth without a word.
She gave him a look that was half challenge, half expectation, and accepted it. When he didn't immediately offer her another bite, her expression shifted into a faint, irritated pout.
"You're too slow," she muttered.
Varion's mouth curved slightly. He fed her again, and only then did she resume feeding him. They continued like that for a short while, settling into a comfortable rhythm. Every time he took too long between bites, the same small frown appeared on her face until he corrected it.
After a few more pieces, Varion spoke.
"Yesterday you said there were a few reasons you took an interest in me." He kept his tone even. "What did you mean by that?"
Luminous's hand paused halfway to his mouth. She fed him the next bite anyway, buying herself a moment while her thoughts turned inward.
'Chloe told me not to tell anyone about her. She said it could cause problems if I did. But I want to tell him something at least and I have no intention of lying to him either.'
After a short internal debate, she settled on the truth but telling keeping parts that would change things out.
"A friend of mine told me about you," she said at last. "Centuries ago. She wouldn't stop talking about you." A small, almost reluctant smile touched her lips. "I'll admit It made me curious."
Varion's brow furrowed slightly, but he stayed quiet, letting her continue.
"Later she told me to be in that alley at that exact time. She said if I wasn't there, I would miss something important." Luminous's eyes met his. ".....She was right. I would have regretted it greatly if I had missed meeting you that day."
A faint flush rose across Varion's cheeks at her blunt admission. Luminous noticed and smirked, clearly pleased with the reaction.
Varion's blush faded as he thought more on what she said. A friend told her about him centuries ago. That same friend had pointed her to the exact place and time to meet him. The more he thought about it, the more a familiar unease settled in his chest.
'Was she really still here because of me… or because of whatever that person told her about me? Does she even like me or is this some kind of-?'
Luminous's expression sharpened the moment she noticed the look on his face. She rolled her eyes, leaned in, and flicked him firmly on the nose before he could voice it. As her hand grabbed his jaw with a firm but gentle hold.
"Don't," she said, voice flat. "I am not so shallow that I would do any of what I've done with you based solely on someone else's opinion, no matter how much they mean to me." Her heterochromatic eyes locked onto his, sharp and unyielding. "All she did was convince me to be in that alley at the right time. It was you who made me stay. When we were ready to leave after dinner was over we both chose not to part ways, remember?"
She released him then leaned back slightly, flipped a strand of silver hair over her shoulder with deliberate arrogance, and added, "I quite like how you are. Stop worrying, it's annoying. I like you so that's all there is to it, now stop over thinking it."
Her directness, and the way she so blatantly told him that, pulled a stronger blush from Varion then before. No one had ever spoken to him about wanting him with that kind of blunt certainty before. Luminous watched the color settle on his cheeks and looked thoroughly satisfied.
She picked up another piece of food and held it out to him, waiting with open expectation.
" Now eat while it's still fresh." She commanded.
she held out a piece of food impatiently until he took it, then continued as if the interruption had never happened.
"The first thing that actually caught my attention was your Hero's Egg," she said. "That alone is rare enough. But it was also the feeling of your energy that made me even more interested. It was… familiar in a way I couldn't place at first."
She fed him another bite, then took one herself when he offered it, her expression turning more serious.
"I wasn't completely certain until earlier," she went on. "When I tasted your blood. The quality of it, the uniqueness … there's no mistaking it now." Her heterochromatic eyes met his steadily. "You are Veldanava's son and a Dragonoid."
It wasn't phrased as a question, but she clearly wanted confirmation.
Varion didn't hesitate. There was no point in hiding it.
"Yes," he said simply. "I am."
Luminous studied him for a moment longer, something sharp and satisfied flickering behind her eyes. Then she gave a small nod.
"I thought so." She leaned back slightly. "We'll talk about that later."
Luminous held another piece of food out to him and continued once he took it.
"What first made me want to really know you, rather than just out of curiosity, was the way your presence felt." She paused, choosing her words carefully. "Dominant… but protective in a way that for some reason made me feel safe just standing next to you. It was the first time in a very long time that someone's presence didn't put me on edge or bore me."
She accepted the bite he offered her in return, then went on.
"While we were eating that night, I found myself actually enjoying your company and your attention. That was new as there are very few people I will even tolerate." Her expression softened just slightly. "And when I tried to scan you more closely, my skill kept reacting strangely. It kept giving me the urge to stay near you. I didn't understand it at the time."
She leaned into his side a little, her tone turning more certain.
"I figured it out later during our trip. Our souls were resonating strongly. That's why the idea of parting ways after dinner felt wrong. I didn't want to leave, I wanted to stay near you and get to know you, that's why I asked to accompany you." Her eyes met his. "I'm fairly certain you felt something similar."
Varion was quiet for a moment, then nodded.
"I did," he said. "I liked you more than I expected to after one short meal. Talking with you eased something in me in a way that was strange at the time. When we were standing outside and it was time to leave, the thought of just walking away felt… wrong. My instincts were against the idea of leaving."
Luminous's expression eased into something quietly satisfied.
"That lines up," she said. "It's exactly what you should have felt."
She straightened her back and puffed out her chest proudly. The movement made her bare chest jiggle noticeably. She stayed there looking smug
"We are highly compatible. So much so that even our souls recognized it."
Varion's gaze dropped for a brief second before he caught himself and looked back up. The reaction was small, but she caught it immediately.
A wider, deeply satisfied smirk spread across her lips.
"I have never taken a partner," she said, voice quieter but firm. "But I have decided you are worthy of me and will be my husband."
Varion stared at her for a second, caught off guard by the sheer finality in her voice.
"…Husband," he repeated, more to process the word than anything else.
Luminous didn't look away. She simply waited staring at him intently.
After a moment he let out a quiet breath and nodded.
"Alright, it's a little fast, but i don't really have an issue with it."
The answer came more easily than he expected.
Luminous's expression softened into a small, deeply satisfied smile. The tension in her shoulders eased, and for a brief moment she looked more openly pleased.
Internally, Varion felt a familiar drop of nervous sweat form.
'What's with me and getting married so quickly to beautiful and powerful women…?'
He kept the thought to himself.
The moment the words left his mouth, Luminous moved. She shifted forward and settled herself fully into his lap, straddling him without hesitation. Her bare skin pressed against his, and she looked down at him with clear, quiet triumph at his response.
Varion's hands settled on her butt giving a small squeeze almost automatically. A small smirk tugged at his lips as he looked up at her.
"After all," he said, eyes drifting over her, "why would I complain about having a wife with all of this?"
His hands slid upward, trailing from her butt over her sides before settling on her heavy breasts, squeezing them firmly.
Luminous's breath caught turning into a groan. As a visible shiver ran through her, and her eyes half-lidded in open delight as she leaned into his touch.
"Be careful dear you're going to get more than you can handle." she said, pressing her hips into him slightly and looped her arms round his neck.
"Oh I think I'm trying to handle exactly what I want to right now," he said with a smirk leaning in kissing her.
