They go get an adventurer's license by entering the crowded and immense adventurer's guild hall to talk to the receptionist and meet a woman of dark skin and braided hair.
"How can I help you two?" the woman says.
"We are here to get adventurer licenses," Jill says.
The woman took a good look at the two; from her point of view, they already seemed like experienced fighters, and asked for their names and ages.
"Clad, 24."
"Jill Darkheid, 26"
The receptionist pulled two papers as she put their names on them. After receiving the paper, the lady told them to go into the room on their left to get their tests done, which the duo thanked her for before walking into the test area. The room was full of people with what seemed to be multiple doors that shone in different colors.
"What do you think those doors do?" Clad asked Jill.
"I don't know." She replies before getting interrupted by a one-eyed man.
"The doors lead to areas where tests are taken; each door has a different test, which depends on what type of weapon you use." He says.
"So there are cyclops here, too?" Jill thought, surprised to see one here of all places.
"So how do we get a test?" Clad asks.
"First, I'll need the papers in your hands, then I'll put you in the waiting queue."
"Alright, thanks!"
The two handed their papers to him as he got both of them in the queue, then left them alone as he accomplished his job. Clad and Jill sat there waiting for what seemed to be an eternity to them.
"We've been sitting here for how long?" Clad asked Jill, who replied by not knowing at all, as they seemed tired of waiting for so long, but their names were eventually called out.
[Clad and Jill Darkheid, please come to the green door where your tester will be waiting for you. Thank you.]
"About time!" The two shout as they rapidly get up.
As they went towards the green-lit door, they saw a woman of an uncommon appearance. Blue skin, white hair, and ears similar to elves. Clad and Jill got closer to the woman who waved at them before she introduced herself.
"Hello, you two, my name is Zaruya, I'll be the one responsible for your test!"
"Im Clad."
"Nice to meet you, Clad!" She replied.
"I am Jill Darkheid."
!
"Oh, a noblewoman~!" She says in a teasing tone, which slightly annoys her.
"I don't want to sound rude, but can we start the test already?" Jill tells her with a cold and heartless tone.
"Sure...!"
As the three went into the green door, they were met with a flat grassland and a dark blue sky. The surroundings looked as if it were nighttime, but something about it seemed oddly beautiful.
"By the way, Jill, sorry if my comment seemed rude to you or anything, I didn't mean it like that, I'm just a very social woman," Zaruya said as she stretched her athletic body.
"It's fine, it's just that we have been waiting for quite a while, so I'd like to make this fast."
"Confident, aren't we?"
"Well then, let's start with Clad, try to attack me, and I'll give you an adventurer rank."
"Adventurer rank?" He said, wondering what she was talking about.
"An adventurer rank is what makes the difference between the weak and strong in the guilds, the rank being F, E, D, C, B, A, S, and X."
"Adventurers take quests depending on their ranks and return with the monsters they hunt or whatever they were sent to do, and gain rewards for it."
"And what rank are you?" Clad asked her.
"That's what I'm getting at."
"There are 20 people in the adventurer's guild that are way stronger than even X ranks; those people are called 'Pillars', and I'm one of them," Zaruya says confidently with a smirk on her face.
"Where do you place out of the 20 pillars?"
...
The silence was getting loud, but she eventually admitted to being the 20th, which she personally found very embarrassing.
"...L-lets just start the test, okay?"
