Chapter 1 - Arc I chapter I : Blood

I am lying on the bathroom tiles.

I open my eye. The light is too bright.

Am I in heaven?

I don't feel any pain anymore.

The golden morning light shrine through my eyes. I can hear car driving and people chatting on the street above.

I try to stand up but I can't. I look around the house. There are no sign of survivors. The previously brown wooden floor is now red. What la did beside me is a body of a woman. The bathrooms are completely wreak: mirror and porcelain shard scattered the floor with a sink stood half broken and floor covered in blood. The smell of it lingers in the air.

How did I survive?

I try to stand again but the wounds in the leg sent a sharp pain through my entire body.

I crawl through shards of broken tiles to the main bedroom where multiples bunk bed stand. The wall behind it is riddled with bullet holes and the bed is like red canvas.

"Goodbye" I whisper to one of the body.

Before I can even stand, a sound of police sirens blare across the street then followed rapidly by a sound of knocking on my door.

I jumped up without knowing and started running.

I rush through my room then I rapidly open the back door and rush to a narrow, dark corridor with many small shops and door. The corridor is filled with wires and drains.

I ran and ran but the exit is still nowhere to be seen. Then 2 heavily arms policeman appeared out of nowhere and behind them is there door I have been looking for. I immediately fall to the ground as my adrenaline rush fade. The they put me into the back of their car.

After a short while, the car stop and the door is opened behind me.

They put me on a wheelchair and then they wrap a long white piece of cloth around the wound.

They quickly pushed me through a clean corridor and then into a small room with blank wall, a table, and a single light.

"What do you do to that woman?" A guy who wear a formal suit and tie ask me.

"I don't know"

"What power do you use?" He asked me again

"I don't know"

"You will be put in a holding cell" he tell me

After a short while, 2 armed man drag me into a dark, dirty cell with other people in it.

I spot a guy who seems nervous.

"What are you in for?" I asked him

"Stealing" he reply.

We went quiet for a short moment.

"What are you in for?" He asked me back.

"They suspect me of murder."

"Good luck getting out" he reply.

A guard walk over and stare at us with suspicion.

He look like a tall young male with long messy hair wearing a formal shirt with a long trench coat.

"Why doesn't he look like the one I just met before?" I asked a guy sitting next to me. He is only 30 years old but he look like he is in his late 60 with gray hair, tan wrinkles skin.

"He is from a supernatural division" he reply.

"What's it?" I asked with confusion.

"They're mutants like you at me with powerful abilities."

"What're the differences?"

"They deal with mutated monsters while normal police deal with normal crimes" he answered me with enthusiasm.

"How do you know so much about them."

"I once dream of being one" his tone shift to show a hint of disappointment.

"Do you want to go there?" He asked.

"No."

"Why?" He ask with confusion.

"I'm afraid of those monster and…. I don't even how how to use my power."

I look around the jail cell. There's not a lot of people. The cell is very empty, inside there're only a few thin mattress and a small toilet.

After a while pass, the same officer walk back toward our cell with a bag full of white bread. He toss a few bread on the floor of the cell. I pick it up and eat it quickly.

I turn to the guy nearest to me and walk toward him.

"What do you do before you get here" I asked the same guy I talk with in the morning.

"I once work as a lumberjack" he answer.

"You?" He asked me back.

"I work as a coal miner."

The officer walk back again. This time, he give me what seem to be an official document and a pen.

"Sign it" he order me.

I quickly sign the document and give it back to him.

After dinner, I spend the whole night in the cell.

The next morning, I walk up to the sound of other people eating.

"What're you eating?" I asked him.

"Breakfast."

I feel disappointed knowing that I'll have to wait until lunch.

My stomach is growling.

"Can I have some?" I asked a guy next to me.

"No"

"Please"

"No"

"Pl…"

I hear a sound of an officer knowing on my cell door.

"Mister Tora, follow me"

He grab a key from his pocket and unlock the door. He escorted me to the garage of the police station.

"We are going to the court" he tells me.

He put me in the backseat of a car. Inside I'm alone with him driving it. We sit silently. We drive across sea of old crumbling dense residential building. We sit in a long traffic of cars and pedestrians. He drive me to a district filled with glass skyscrapers. The park in front of a gorgeous classical building in the middle of a lush green park.

He put a handcuff on my hand and escort me into the building.

Inside, the building is decorated with grand wooden trims and a glamorous marble floor. I was let into a big room. I sit in a it with many people. Standing on the podium of the room is the judge.

"I didn't do anything wrong, I'm simply defending myself" I talk to the judge trembling in fear.

"You are guilty" the judge sentenced me without even hearing what I just said.

"I give you 2 choices….the first one is life in prison…the second one will require you to serve 30 years in the supernatural division of the police department.

I'm 18 so if I serve 30 years I'll be….48. I did the calculation in my head.

"I'll take serve in the supernatural div…." I rush to answer.

"We will process your request" the judge rely with a professional tone.

2 police guard escort me out of the courtroom.

They put in the back of the police car and drive me back to the holding cell.

I got locked up in the same cell again.

"Where have you been?" He asked me.

"The court."

"How's it?"

"Guilty." I said disappointingly

"I could have expected." He said without a hint of surprise.

The orange sunset light reflected through a window of an old building in the back into the prison cell.

"The court really takes the whole day" I whispered to myself.

"What did they ask you?"

"Not really anything they just sentence me."

He nod like he experienced the same thing.

"Did you wait for hours like me?" He asked me

"Yes."

He nod again.

The orange light outside the window slowly fade.

The jail light switches off and it becomes completely dark.

I wanna shower so much I haven't showered in 3 days. He think while trying to fall asleep.

The next morning, the officer comes knocking on the cell again.

He unlock the door and escorts me out into the same police car as yesterday.

We drive for hours until there's not a single traces of civilization left.

He drop me off on a dirt road deep inside the mountains, deeper than the mine, deeper than I ever go. Then the car drove away fast like he's escaping something.

I walk deeper along the dirt road and I am met with a massive crowd of people.

There is a massive podium announcing something at the front of the crowd.

The trial has began.
