Chapter 51 - CHAPTER 51 - PRESSURE AND PRIDE

The arena settled into a tense rhythm as the fight continued, the earlier clashes still echoing in the minds of everyone watching. Kairo adjusted his grip on the Black Spartan sword, his breathing heavier now, but his eyes sharper than before. Across from him, Reji stood relaxed, the chain of his kusarigama swaying lightly as if the weapon itself was alive and waiting for its next command.

From the stands, whispers began to rise.

"I'm telling you, Kairo's going to lose," one of the girls said, covering her mouth slightly as she laughed with her friends. "Reji hasn't even tried yet."

"Yeah, look at him," another added, glancing at Kairo's stance. "He's already struggling just to keep up."

A few nearby students chuckled quietly, clearly leaning toward Reji's side.

Kairo heard it.

Not every word but enough.

His jaw tightened slightly, though his expression didn't break.

"…Keep talking," he muttered under his breath. "I'm still standing."

Reji tilted his head slightly, noticing the shift. "Distracted already?" he asked calmly. "That's disappointing."

Kairo exhaled slowly, rolling his shoulder before lifting the Black Spartan sword again. This time, the energy around him began to change Reikou flowing more smoothly, more controlled than before. The blade responded instantly, faint light running along its dark surface like veins awakening.

"…Nah," Kairo replied. "Just getting warmed up."

Reji's smirk returned.

"Good."

He moved first again.

The chain shot forward with even greater speed than before, the blade cutting through the air with precision that felt almost unnatural. Kairo stepped to the side this time, avoiding the direct hit, but the chain curved mid-motion, forcing him to raise his sword to block from an unexpected angle.

The impact rang louder than before.

Reji didn't stop.

The chain snapped back, then forward again, each movement sharper, faster, and heavier. This time, the strikes carried more weight not just from speed, but from something deeper.

The strong force, is now being applied directly to Reji's attacks. By reinforcing the structure of his weapon at a microscopic level, he increases its density and impact far beyond normal physical limits.

Each strike felt heavier.

Each collision forced Kairo's arms to absorb more pressure.

The ground beneath his feet cracked slightly as he blocked again, his body pushed back step by step.

"…Tch."

Reji stepped forward slowly, controlling the distance with ease.

"You feel it, don't you?" he said, his tone almost casual. "Every hit carries more than just momentum. It's structure. Density. Force you can't simply overpower."

Kairo slid back again after another clash, his grip tightening on the sword.

"…Yeah," he admitted. "It's annoying."

Reji's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Then adapt."

The chain came again this time faster than before.

Kairo reacted but barely.

The blade grazed his side, leaving a sharp cut that forced him to shift his stance immediately. He countered with a swing of Black Spartan, but Reji had already moved, his body twisting effortlessly as he avoided the strike and retaliated with a precise hit to Kairo's shoulder.

The impact pushed Kairo back hard.

He landed roughly, one knee hitting the ground before he forced himself back up.

From the stands, the same group of girls laughed again.

"See? I told you."

"He can't keep up."

"He's done."

Kairo heard it clearer this time.

And for a moment-

He stayed still.

Then slowly…

He stood up straight.

"…I'm not done."

His voice wasn't loud.

But it carried.

Reji watched him carefully now, his expression shifting just slightly.

"…Still standing," he murmured.

Kairo lifted the Black Spartan sword again, his grip firmer this time. The Reikou energy flowing through him began to surge not wildly, but steadily, like something finally finding its rhythm.

"…You keep talking about force," Kairo said, taking a step forward. "About control."

He took another step.

"…But you're not the only one learning here."

The energy around him intensified slightly, flowing from his body into the blade. The Black Spartan responded immediately, stabilizing the flow, amplifying it without letting it spiral out of control.

For Reikou users, the key is balance energy that enhances physical ability while maintaining stability. When combined with a weapon designed to support that flow, the result becomes far more effective than raw power alone.

Kairo's stance lowered slightly.

This time-

He moved first.

He dashed forward, faster than before not as fast as Reji, but faster than he had been earlier in the fight. The distance closed quickly, forcing Reji to react instead of initiate.

The sword swung.

Reji blocked with the shaft of his kusarigama but this time, the impact felt different.

He slid back slightly.

"…Improved," Reji noted.

Kairo didn't stop.

He followed with another strike, then another, each one carrying more weight as the Reikou energy continued to flow through the blade. The attacks weren't perfect but they were better.

More controlled.

More intentional.

Reji deflected, dodged, countered but now, he had to work.

The rhythm had changed.

Kairo pressed forward, forcing exchanges instead of reacting to them. His movements weren't as precise as Reji's but they were relentless.

"I'm not losing," Kairo said, his voice steady despite the strain in his body.

Another clash.

"I didn't come this far-"

Another strike.

"-just to get laughed at and walk away."

Reji stepped back after blocking again, his eyes narrowing slightly as he reassessed.

"…So that's it," he said quietly. "Pride."

Kairo smirked faintly.

"…Call it whatever you want."

The air between them grew heavier again.

Reji rolled his shoulder once more, the chain shifting smoothly as he prepared himself.

"Then let's see how far that takes you."

The energy around his weapon surged again, stronger than before.

Kairo tightened his grip on the Black Spartan, the Reikou energy stabilizing once more as he prepared to move.

Both of them stepped forward at the same time.

The next clash-

Would push them even further.

And the fight-

Was far from over.
