Tears fell from Caden Lockwood's eyes, one drop after another, onto Evelyn Morgan's face, mixing with her blood, quickly disappearing.
"If you die, what am I supposed to do?" Caden held Evelyn tightly. "I still have so much to tell you, so many explanations left unsaid! How can you bear to leave? You haven't even claimed your scholarship, you haven't seen Cecilia Lynch's wedding, you haven't fulfilled your dreams yet! As long as you wake up, don't die, I'll promise you anything, even if it means getting a divorce... I..."
Caden clenched his fists, but the tearing pain couldn't compare to the ache in his heart—it was hardly worth mentioning.
"I agree too." Caden uttered each word slowly, and the last shred of his remaining spirit extinguished in that moment.
It was like those precious lingering embers, filled with love and hope, were now extinguished, never to reignite.
Yet, even with Caden's compromise, Evelyn gave no response.
