Evelyn felt a sourness in her nose, her lips pressed into a straight line without a trace of a smile, and even her heart was beating so slowly, as if it might stop at any moment.
Caden Lockwood lowered his gaze and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
It was rare for Evelyn to be this proactive.
"I'm in a bad mood," Evelyn said in a low voice.
Caden chuckled lightly, "Who upset you?"
He raised both hands, embraced Evelyn, and murmured, "I should be thankful to that person; if not for them, how could you be so eager to snuggle into my arms?"
"Hey!" Evelyn raised her eyes displeasedly, meeting Caden's gaze, and said with annoyance, "You ought to... comfort me a little, shouldn't you? How can you be so gleeful in your teasing?"
"Where am I teasing you?" Caden's smile deepened, "Come on! Why are you feeling down?" His tone was indulgent.
Evelyn opened her mouth, ready to vent her grievances and complaints, but as the words reached the tip of her tongue, she swallowed them.
