"What's going on here?"
After finishing up at the village committee, Tian Xin came to Cainiao before heading home. She was immediately blocked by a heap of messy packages at the entrance.
"You can't just leave these here, can you?"
She glanced at them and, with a swift motion, sorted the packages by size and neatly stacked them on the doorstep.
Zhang Lei was offloading goods from the truck, still tossing them one by one at the entrance.
"Hey, wait a second," Tian Xin called out to him, "Are all these for today?"
"Yeah!" Zhang Lei replied, placing down the last stack of packages, taking a long stride to step over the stack and head inside.
Ever since their conversation, Zhang Lei had grown distant from the villagers. Each visit, he said little, finished his work quietly, and left.
The villagers preferred the peace and didn't pay him much attention, maintaining this unspoken businesslike relationship without any more incidents.
