Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Is This Your Friend?

Zhao Qi's hands were trembling, but Jiang Che in front of him had already lost his mind. He heard a gunshot behind him, and then saw a black hole appear in Blood Slaughter's forehead.

Regret, frustration, anger...

A flood of emotions surged through his mind in an instant. He turned around and grabbed Zhao Qi by the throat, his eyes bulging, veins popping violently.

"I'm fucking killing you!" Jiang Che strangled Zhao Qi's neck tightly.

Ya stepped back two paces. The scene before her had already shattered her nerves. Watching Jiang Che choke Zhao Qi, she couldn't comprehend why this lunatic was mad after seeing a gun fired at a spirit.

She kept backing away. All she wanted now was to seize the chance while these two dogs bit each other and get the hell out of here.

Before leaving, she saw Zhao Qi's face turn the color of a pig's liver as he slowly raised the pistol, aiming it at Jiang Che's temple.

The livestream viewers all went silent at once,

[Who said lunatics are stupid? I think this lunatic is sharp as hell—he knows his bodyguard is gone now.]

[Dog eat dog, and the winner turns out to be the little nurse.]

[Wait a sec, guys, you're forgetting something—guns and all these hot weapons do nothing to evil spirits.]

...

One sentence yanked everyone back to reality.

Yeah, hot weapons are useless against evil spirits!

Sure enough, just as the muzzle was about to touch Jiang Che's temple, a hand reached out and pinched Zhao Qi's gun.

Just two fingers and, slowly, the metal barrel was crushed flat in a second.

Blood Slaughter had slowly started to lift his arched head. There was a scorched black hole in the forehead of his mask, yet under it not a scratch on his true body.

"Alright, I'm fine." Blood Slaughter patted Jiang Che on the head. He could practically taste Jiang Che's emotions.

That moment of anger and regret wasn't a lie—this really is my son!

He grabbed Zhao Qi's head, casting a glance at Ya, who was trying to escape.

The instant his cold gaze landed on her, she was frozen in place.

"Take your friend inside and eat. Let your bad old man handle this." He nodded at Ya and Jiang Che, signaling them into the house.

"You really okay?" Jiang Che wiped his damp eyes. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't just bring anyone home."

"They said they knew where my wife was. That's why I brought them back."

"No worries. You're a good kid—they're the ones who suck." Blood Slaughter gave Jiang Che a push, shoving him into the house.

"You too, get inside." He glanced at Ya, who had fallen on the ground.

Ya shrank back in terror, wanting nothing more than to bolt, but a Blood Nurse appeared behind her, grabbed her by the back of her uniform. "Let's go, get in there already. The others are waiting."

The room's door shut. Blood Slaughter, one fist locked on Zhao Qi's skull, dragged him toward the garden.

Five fingers sunk deep into Zhao Qi's skull; Zhao Qi howled in agony, eyes about to burst.

After walking some distance, Blood Slaughter pressed just a bit harder, and blood instantly splattered everywhere.

A headless corpse crumpled to the ground, blood seeping rapidly into the soil, mixing with the blackened earth.

After finishing, he didn't return home right away—just a few blurred movements and he was gone.

All that was left was a headless body tossed in the shrubbery.

Meanwhile, inside the villa, ever since being dragged in, Nurse Ya hadn't dared move a muscle in her chair, terror filling her eyes as she watched the scene unfold.

Because she saw Jiang Che sitting on the sofa, guilt plastered across his face, head bowed in remorse.

"Dad isn't back yet?" He kept glancing toward the door.

"He'll be back soon. He went to return something to a friend." The Blood Nurse poured a glass of water and handed it to Jiang Che.

These two prey belonged to the spider next door—Blood Slaughter just couldn't resist killing one, so now he had to go fetch another to trade back.

Sitting unmoving in her chair, Ya's fingers brushed the rough, dried blood on the furniture, and it made her skin crawl.

But this wasn't the most terrifying thing,

If there was anything stranger than Jiang Che calling these monsters mom and dad, it was the Blood Nurse handing him a clean cup and filling it with fresh water.

Pristine, crystal-clear water—completely at odds with everything else here.

"Is that your friend?" The Blood Nurse glanced at Ya. The human's reek of terror had soaked the whole room.

"She's not my friend, but she said she knows where my wife is and promised to help me find her."

"You have a wife?" The Blood Nurse froze, then frowned. "Then you'd better find her quick. This place is not safe."

She couldn't help feeling a weird fondness—she hadn't even met the girl, and already didn't want her to die out there alone.

"Do you know where she is?" She looked at Nurse Ya, puzzled.

"Y-yeah, we agreed to meet up somewhere." Ya didn't have time to think, and didn't dare admit the wife was a total lie.

Her mind whirred. If she took Jiang Che to another evil spirit, say he was her "wife," let that spirit kill Jiang Che—

—then when Blood Slaughter found out, he'd kill that spirit in revenge. Let the monsters tear each other apart, maybe she'd survive the chaos?

The Blood Nurse's face creased deeper—she could sense Ya's emotions but not read her mind. All she felt was a flash of strange joy and relief.

She wondered if she was imagining things—her thoughts felt ridiculous now.

It actually seemed like this whole Blood Slaughter family really saw Jiang Che as their son!

But how the fuck could that be possible?

Jiang Che's human!

"Alright, eat before you leave. Take some food for the road." The Blood Nurse knew time was tight; in this cursed dungeon, who knew if the wife might die the next second?

"Don't bother waiting for your dad. He'll need time to fetch something for a friend."

"Oh right, I made something for you—put it on." She produced a doctor's coat, stitched up, with flecks of blood still on it.

"Eat first, then go looking." She placed a bowl of instant noodles before Jiang Che, food she'd scavenged from various prey outside.

As for Ya, she couldn't care less if she ate or not.

Seeing Jiang Che's food, Ya was instantly dumbfounded.

This was—?

Instant noodles?

The evil spirit's food was instant noodles?

She understood the world less and less. Did evil spirits actually like instant noodles?

The livestream viewers didn't give a shit about all that. None believed the evil spirits were being kind to Jiang Che—evil spirits were fake as hell, after all.

They just wanted to keep using Jiang Che as bait, tricking him into bringing more people home.

What really pissed them off was the doctor's coat Jiang Che was wearing.

[Another special dungeon item! Why the hell can't I ever get one, and this lunatic scores TWO already?!]
